Job summary

Wetland Studies and Solutions, Inc., a Davey company, seeks an entry-level environmental technician to join our Gainesville, VA Environmental Science team. You will support a variety of natural resource projects, conduct field studies, prepare reports and coordinate with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies.

This role involves hands-on field work, opportunities for growth, and exposure to industry-leading training and safety programs as part of the Davey Tree family.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Forestry, Ecology, Geology, or a closely related discipline.
• General knowledge of environmental science and natural history.
• Willingness to perform field-based environmental work.
• Regional travel to support projects outside the Washington, D.C. area.

Position Overview

Wetland Studies and Solutions, Inc., a Davey company, is seeking an entry-level environmental technician with up to three years of experience to join our Gainesville, Virginia Environmental Science team. This role supports a variety of natural resource projects, working alongside our experienced staff to conduct field studies, prepare reports and technical documentation, and coordinate with our clients and federal, state, and local regulatory agencies.

Job Duties

Job duties will include:

• Wetland delineations
• Stream assessments
• Vegetation assessments
• Endangered and threatened species surveys
• Report preparation
• Coordinating with federal and state resource agencies

Qualifications

REQUIRED

• Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) in Biology, Forestry, Ecology, Geology, or a closely related discipline.
• General knowledge of and/or demonstrated interest in natural history and environmental science.
• Willingness and ability to perform field-based environmental work.
• Regional travel to support projects outside the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.

PREFERRED

• Knowledge of or experience in one or more of the following:
  • Plant identification, including trees and shrubs
  • Soil profiling
  • Benthic macroinvertebrate sampling and/or identification
• Experience performing wetland delineations.
• Experience working with a diverse client base in both the public and private sectors.
• Working knowledge of CAD and field GPS equipment.
