Job summary

ECS Group is seeking an Environmental Technician to support field-based sampling, monitoring, and assessment for environmental consulting projects in Chantilly, VA. You will gain foundational skills through hands-on fieldwork and assist project teams with data collection, documentation, and reporting under supervision.

Qualifications

• Entry-level role with very limited knowledge of environmental principles and testing methods.

• Ability to lift and carry field equipment (~40 lbs).

Responsibilities

• Perform field sampling of environmental media (soil, groundwater, air, etc.).
• Work in indoor and outdoor environments under varying site conditions.
• Communicate daily with technicians, project managers, and site personnel.
• Attend project meetings with senior staff.
• Assist with data collection, basic calculations, and documentation activities.
• Prepare clear and accurate daily field reports describing site activities and observations.
• Learn to calibrate, operate, and maintain field equipment.
• Assist with report production and basic office support tasks.
• Support environmental assessments, including asbestos-containing materials, lead-based paint, radon, and mold.
• Begin to support installation, operation, and maintenance of remediation equipment.
• Begin to learn basics of remediation chemistry as well as mechanical, electrical, and plumbing principles.
• Obtain required certifications as assigned.
• Maintain organization and readiness of field equipment.
• Perform additional technical and support duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• 0 years of related experience
• High school diploma or GED required
• Obtain basic certifications applicable to the work performed as per the ECS Technician Certification Policy
• Ability to work in outdoor environments and varying site conditions
• Ability to lift and carry field equipment (~40 lbs)
• Very limited knowledge of environmental principles and testing methods (entry‑level)
• Strong willingness to learn and develop technical skills
• Good communication skills (verbal and written)
• Ability to follow instructions and work both independently and in a team environment
• Basic proficiency with electronic devices (phones, tablets, laptops)
• Ability to read and interpret maps, plans, and field instructions (developing)
• Dependable, self‑motivated, and detail‑oriented (developing)
• Must have the ability to safely operate a motor vehicle and follow all local and state laws, road/driving regulations, and company policies
• If driving for or on behalf of any ECS subsidiary, a valid driver's license is required

Military Qualifications

• The following US Military ranks would qualify for this position:
  • E-4

The expected pay range for this role and location is $22-$24/hour. The final agreed‑upon compensation will be determined based on specific location and other individual qualifications.
