Vitality is seeking a reliable maintenance technician to join our community operations team in Norfolk, VA. The role focuses on preventative maintenance, cleaning, safety, and supporting residents and staff with daily needs.

You will perform building repairs, floor care, and loading/unloading tasks while maintaining a tidy, safe environment. Ideal candidates have a High School Diploma or GED and 3–5 years of painting/wallcovering, plus electrical and plumbing experience.

Qualifications

  • Three to five years of painting/wallcovering experience in a residential setting.
  • Electrical and plumbing experience.
  • Proficiency in English for reading, writing and communication.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions and work with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness to be available for emergencies and on-call duties.
  • Doctor’s statement verifying freedom from communicable disease, if applicable in your state.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine preventative maintenance as directed by supervisor.
  • Empty/collect trash throughout the community.
  • Strip, wax, and buff floors as scheduled or as needed.
  • Move furniture and assist residents with moving needs.
  • Assist with grounds care in seasonal conditions.
  • Complete work orders including minor building repairs.
  • Serve on security detail when assigned.

Keeping focus on our core values, we strive each day to ensure that our residents remain connected and purposeful.GENERAL PURPOSE:Be part of an energetic team, devoted to delivering a unique and enjoyable customer service experience for our residents and visitors.RESPONSIBILITIES:Perform routine preventative maintenance, as directed by supervisor.Empty/collect trash throughout the community.Strip, wax, and buff floors on a scheduled routine basis and as needed for unexpected occurrences.Responsible for proper hazard waste disposal.Move furniture, equipment, and assists residents with moving needs as assigned.Assist with grounds care as necessary, such as weeding in the summer or snow removal in the winter.Removal and distribution of deliveries from the loading and delivery areas to their proper locating in the building.Perform work orders as assigned, including minor building and equipment repairs.Serve on security detail when assigned. Follows established protocol for responding to and documenting community concerns.Accomplish all work in the order of priority set by supervisor.Support creating a culture where the business decisions made in this position, along with individual employee engagement, drive top-line revenue and occupancy.Observe and abide by all regulations to ensure that personal health information is protected during its collection, use, disclosure, storage, and destruction within the community; ensure only the minimum necessary resident information is known to function in this position.Assure resident safety.Follow written and oral directions.Maintain all tools, equipment and supplies in proper condition.Recommend improvements and offers suggestions as appropriate.Maintain confidentiality of resident and community information.Complete assignments timely, completely and accurately.Attend all in-services as assigned or requested.Participate in interdisciplinary team and other community meetings as assigned or requested.Consistently work cooperatively with residents, co-workers, physicians, families, consultant personnel and other ancillary service providers.Observe all community safety policies and procedures.Observe of safety hazards and emergency situations, and report to appropriate person or takes corrective action according to established procedures.Come to work in a clean, neat uniform and consistently present an appropriate professional appearance.Come to work as scheduled and consistently demonstrate dependability and punctuality, comply with attendance policy.Assume accountability for compliance with Federal, State, and other regulations within scope of control and of which informed.Observe infection control procedures.Follow Residents’ Rights policies at all times.Observe all community policies and procedures.Accept assigned duties, instructions or correction in a cooperative manner, voicing concerns or disagreement in a professional manner through established chain of authority according to state procedures.Attend and participate in onboarding and annual training, in-services and team member meetings as requested.Perform incidental housekeeping and maintenance tasks that may arise during the course of regular duties, in order to maintain a clean, safe, pleasant environment for residents, visitors and staff.Perform all other related duties as assigned in an effective, timely and professional manner.SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:High School Diploma or GED.Three to five years of painting/wallcovering experience in a residential setting.Electrical and plumbing experience. • Proficiency in the English language enabling the employee to read, write, comprehend and communicate simple instructions, correspondence, memos, etc.Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.Ability to deal with problems involving few concrete variables in standardized situations.Willingness to be available for any/all emergencies regarding the community and on-call duties.Doctor’s statement verifying free from communicable disease, if applicable in your state.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Tools, equipment, machines may be used on the job:Rotohammer, table and band saw, welder, hoist, pullers, assorted hand tools, laminate trimmers/routers, pneumatic tools, drills, saws, HVAC general equipment, drill press, grinder, etc.Physical activities of the position:Lifts and carries up to 100 lbs. with assistance occasionallyPushes and pulls up to 100 lbs. with assistance occasionallyWalking, standing, pushing, stooping, bending and stretching frequentlyMust be able to climb and descend ladders and stairsPhysical requirements of the job:Medium work – exerts up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently and/or up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally to move objects.EXPOSURE RISK CLASSIFICATION:May perform unplanned tasks involving exposure to blood, bodily fluids, or tissue which may contain AIDS, HIV, and Hepatitis A, B, and C viruses.
