Qualifications

  • Degree in a Health, Environment, and Safety-related field preferred; High School Diploma + relevant experience required.
  • Working knowledge of Texas and New Mexico environmental requirements for onshore oil and gas planning, drilling, completions, and construction.
  • Knowledge of regulatory agencies and requirements (BLM, NMOCD, TXRRC, APDs, permits, assessments).
  • Ability to translate risks into clear mitigation actions and coordinate with agencies, contractors, and field teams.

Environmental Compliance Specialist (Shale & Tight)

Loading... Environmental Compliance Specialist for a position in Midland, TX. Work Schedule: 100% On-site 9/80 Schedule/9-hour workdays (+ lunch) and rotating Fridays off. Sirius Staffing is seeking an Environmental Specialist to support the Permian Basin Environmental Specialist on Shale & Tight new-drill activities across Texas development areas and one New Mexico area. This role protects company execution by securing approvals, reducing compliance and schedule risk, and translating environmental requirements into clear, field-ready actions that support safe, responsible operations. The Environmental Specialist manages HSE deliverables from spud through POP (Point of Production), covering permitting, environmental surveys, site reviews, pit and pond tracking, reserve pit inspections, and regulatory compliance support for Shale & Tight development.

Core Deliverables
  • Identify constraints, survey requirements, mitigation needs, and regulatory triggers early in the project lifecycle.
  • Manage permits, agency coordination, APD support, conservation reviews, floodplain approvals, pit registrations, and conditions-of-approval tracking.
  • Address biological, cultural, WOTUS, karst, threatened and endangered habitat, nesting, surface-use, and construction/compliance requirements before field activity begins.
  • Complete Clear-to-Construct reviews, constraint maps, permit-condition reviews, seasonal restriction documentation, and field guidance.
  • Track and maintain pit and pond usage data, and complete reserve pit inspections.
  • Coordinate and review environmental surveys and site reviews for new development areas.
  • Maintain environmental inspections, agency reporting, and environmental commitment verification.
  • Support the New Mexico Environmental Specialist as needed.
  • Provide environmental advice and recommendations to project stakeholders, and project-manage assigned environmental activities and deliverables.
  • Validate charges as needed.

  • Strong ability to track approvals, agency responses, environmental commitments, permit conditions, and project deliverables, with disciplined inspection, reporting, and audit support to maintain defensible regulatory documentation.
  • Ability to scope, coordinate, review, and challenge environmental survey work, technical reports, contractor deliverables, schedules, and quality.
  • Strong business and operational judgment, including prioritizing work based on schedule, cost, compliance, agency credibility, and license-to-operate risk.
  • Clear, concise communication skills, with the ability to explain complex requirements in field-ready terms, make recommendations, and elevate risks decisively.
  • Comfortable with AI and digital tools in an organized, tech-heavy work environment.
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, and able to work independently with minimal direction in a schedule-driven environment where drilling rig, frac crew, and construction delays are costly.
