Actalent is seeking an Environmental Specialist (Lab) to support the Environmental Test Laboratory’s QA/QC group. You will assist with sample receipt, kit preparation, and maintaining quality procedures while collaborating with project managers and lab teams to ensure accurate testing and timely service.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree in a science field, lab experience, and strong attention to detail.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, environmental science, engineering, or a related scientific field preferred.
  • Completion of at least 15 semester credit hours in chemistry preferred.
  • Prior laboratory experience in environmental or analytical settings is a plus.
  • Experience with quality control requirements for analytical methods preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in handling samples, documentation, and data required.
  • Ability to follow technical procedures for analytical testing and QC.

Job Title: Environmental Specialist (Lab)Job Description

The Environmental Specialist (Lab) supports an Environmental Test Laboratory’s Reporting and Quality Control (QA/QC) group by providing essential sample receiving and customer kit services. The laboratory delivers analytical services used for regulatory compliance, contract specification verification, and asset protection. In this role, you help ensure customer expectations are met across various sample categories by cleaning sample containers, assembling sample kits, assisting project managers with sample receipt, and providing support to other lab areas as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Work safely at all times and proactively identify unsafe working conditions, recommending and implementing corrective actions as needed.

  • Consistently maintain strong attention to detail while performing all job duties in a fast-paced laboratory environment.

  • Assist quality control project managers with sample receipt, including tasks such as checking pH, labeling samples, and verifying sample information.

  • Clean and prepare sample containers to ensure they are ready for accurate and reliable analytical testing.

  • Build complete and accurate sample kits for customers, including maintaining a clean and adequate supply of transformer oil syringes and other required materials.

  • Maintain clear, professional, and timely communication with customers and co-workers to support smooth laboratory operations.

  • Partner with employees, laboratory management, and customers to manage analytical and quality control procedures that help the lab deliver cost-effective, timely, and accurate services.

  • Collaborate with various laboratory sections to ensure all quality control processes are followed and to maintain the integrity and effectiveness of the lab’s quality management system.

  • Support other positions or areas of the laboratory as needed to meet workload demands and maintain overall service quality.

Essential Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, environmental science, engineering, or a related scientific field is preferred.

  • Completion of at least 15 semester credit hours in chemistry is strongly preferred.

  • Prior laboratory experience, particularly in an environmental or analytical setting, is a plus.

  • Experience with quality control requirements for analytical methods is preferred.

  • Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy in handling samples, documentation, and data is required.

  • Ability to understand and follow technical procedures related to analytical testing and quality control.

  • Ability to detect problems in processes or results and work collaboratively with others to resolve them.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with competing deadlines while maintaining quality and accuracy.

  • Proficiency with computer systems, including the Microsoft Office suite, and accurate, efficient typing skills.

  • Knowledge and understanding of OSHA laboratory safety requirements under 29 CFR 1910.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills for interacting with internal teams and external customers.

  • Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with a variety of internal and external work groups and customers.

Work Environment

This role is based in a laboratory setting within a general services complex. You work in an analytical environmental lab focused on regulatory compliance, contract specification verification, and asset protection, partnering closely with project managers and other laboratory sections. The environment requires consistent adherence to OSHA laboratory safety requirements under 29 CFR 1910. Personal protective equipment is required to perform job duties and includes safety glasses, disposable nitrile gloves, and a lab coat. Work involves handling various sample types and laboratory materials, using computer systems and Microsoft Office for documentation and communication, and collaborating with a diverse group of colleagues and customers in a professional, quality-driven culture.

This is a Contract position based out of Calera, AL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $29.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
