Job summary

The Sonoma Water Agency is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a Water Agency Environmental Specialist I position responsible for environmental compliance and permitting matters for Sonoma Water projects.

The Environmental Specialist I applies interdisciplinary knowledge from biology, ecology, environmental science, and hydrology to assist with CEQA studies, permit applications, field assessments, and regulatory reviews.

Qualifications

Candidate should apply knowledge from biology, ecology, environmental science and hydrology to evaluate environmental effects on projects.
Experience with environmental regulatory compliance and permitting processes is beneficial.
Ability to assist in preparing CEQA studies and regulatory permit applications.

Responsibilities

Assist with the preparation of CEQA studies (categorical exemptions, MNDs, EIRs and technical reports).
Assist with preparation of environmental regulatory permit applications to local, state, and federal agencies.
Perform field assessments for aquatic/terrestrial resources to evaluate environmental effects and potential impacts.
Review natural resource studies to understand site conditions and constraints.
Prepare tracking tools, SOPs and reports for projects.
Assist in complying with state, federal, and local environmental laws and regulations; land use planning, grants, and right-of-way activities.
Stay up to date with CEQA, NEPA, Clean Water Act, Porter-Cologne Act, and Endangered Species Acts.
