The Environmental Laboratory provides analytical services dedicated to regulatory compliance, contract specification verification, and asset protection. The Environmental Specialist I position primarily supports sample receiving, customer sample kit preparation, and laboratory quality control activities, helping ensure samples are received, processed, and documented accurately across multiple sample categories. This role also assists with laboratory housekeeping, safety compliance, customer communication, and other lab support functions as needed.
Safety & Compliance: Work safely, identify, report, and support corrective actions for unsafe working conditions, and follow established quality control procedures to support the integrity and effectiveness of the lab’s quality management system.
Sample Management & Processing: * Receive transformer oil samples submitted to the laboratory.
Prepare customer sample kits and maintain a clean, ready supply of transformer oil syringes.
Assist Quality Control Project Managers with sample receipt activities, including checking pH, labeling samples, and supporting sample documentation.
Laboratory Operations & Housekeeping: Clean sample containers, perform routine room inspections, and provide support to other laboratory areas as needed.
Communication & Coordination: Maintain clear and professional communication with customers, co-workers, management, and internal/external work groups to support timely, accurate, and cost-effective laboratory services.
Efficiency: Handle multiple priorities with competing deadlines while maintaining high accuracy and attention to detail.
Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, or a related field is preferred.
A minimum of 15 semester hours of chemistry is preferred.
Previous experience with quality control requirements for analytical methods, laboratory sample handling, analytical laboratory testing, or environmental testing is preferred.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to understand and follow technical procedures.
Ability to identify problems and work collaboratively with others to develop solutions.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and competing deadlines.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external work groups and customers.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, alongside accurate and efficient keyboarding/data-entry skills.
Understanding of OSHA laboratory safety requirements under 29 CFR 1910.
