Job summary

State-of-Iow's Iowa Department of Public Defense seeks an Environmental Specialist to support hazardous waste management, supply management and recycling initiatives at Camp Dodge, Johnston IA. This role collaborates with Environmental Team and Iowa Army National Guard to ensure compliance and safety.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in natural science.
• An equivalent combination of experience and education substituting one year of full-time professional work for each year (30 semester hours) of required education.

• Hazardous Waste Management: schedule, organize and coordinate hazardous waste management with Environmental Team and Iowa Army National Guard Personnel.
• Supply Management: manage the inventory of hazardous waste containers and emergency spill supplies.
• Recycling Program Management: oversee recycling program including operating an industrial baler and researching future recycling opportunities.

What You’ll Do:

• Hazardous Waste Management: Work directly with Environmental Team and Iowa Army National Guard Personnel to schedule, organize and coordinate hazardous waste management. This will also include proper labeling, documentation, and inspections of all hazardous wastes.
• Supply Management: Manage the inventory of hazardous waste containers and emergency spill supplies
• Recycling Program Management: Manage the cardboard, paper, scrap metal, and wood recycling program. This will include operating an industrial bailer to bundle paper for recycling and researching future recycling opportunities.

Location and hours

Camp Dodge, 7105 NW 70th Ave. Johnston, IA 50131 and Monday-Friday (Flexible Schedule).
