Job summary

Description

Job Summary: Daily cleaning, sanitizing, and supplying of miscellaneous items for patient rooms, corridors, nurses’ stations, lounges, and other ancillary areas assigned in accordance with standard procedures of the surgery department and Greater Regional objectives. Will use cleaning equipment and procedures established by policies and/or department management. Will maintain a high-quality standard as established by department management. Understands and observes all safety precautions and procedures of the department and Greater Regional.


Major Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities:



  • Uses dust mop to remove dust from horizontal and vertical surfaces (high and low)

  • Empties and cleans waste baskets

  • Full trash bags will be placed in soiled utility room, janitor’s closets, or outside

  • Using wet rag with proper mixture of chemicals and appropriate cloth, damp clean all furniture, telephones, nurse call cords, tables, low ledges. Spot clean doors and frames, walls, cabinets, and beds

  • Using the proper sized mops and equipment with correct mixture of chemicals, dry and wet mop floors in rooms, corridors, conference rooms and other areas as directed

  • Performs check-out cleaning of rooms, complete terminal cleaning of bed and all furniture. Then remake bed with clean linen in accordance with hospital procedures. Remove any extra supplies and equipment to soiled utility room

  • Perform project cleaning as assigned

  • Assist in cleaning of emergency spills that are observed or requested

  • Restock storage areas with paper supplies and some patient care items

  • Understands and observes all procedures and safety precautions relating to the proper handling, shipping, and disposal of sharps and hazardous materials

  • Performs assigned duties during fire, internal or external disaster codes or drills

  • Observes and reports repairs needed to hospital equipment, furniture, fixtures, and building

  • Complies with policies and procedures of the department and hospital for the security of tools, equipment, and supplies

  • Maintains good personal hygiene and appearance, bearing, and behavior in a manner which brings credibility to the department and hospital

  • May be required to work any assigned shift

  • Delivers specimens to lab

  • Turns over rooms between patients being discharged and admitted.

  • Turns over OR’s between cases-clean and sanitize per procedure.

  • Will attend hospital and department training and educational programs as requested

  • When needed, assists with the processing, distribution and storage of washable linen, garments, and other items.

  • Uses chemically treated dust mop to remove dust from horizontal and vertical surfaces (high and low).

  • Pick-up non-infectious and infectious wastes at designated locations and transport to incinerator or the dumpster area

  • Using spray bottle with proper mixture of chemicals and appropriate cloth, damp clean furniture, telephones, nurse call cords, tables, low ledges. Spot clean doors and frames, wall, cabinets, and beds

  • Using the proper mixture of chemicals and equipment, damp buff carpets in offices, conference rooms, and other areas as directed

  • Performs other duties as assigned by Department management


Skills, Education and Experience:



  • Prior experience in a healthcare setting preferred.

  • Annual Infection Prevention education requirements as designated in IC#23 Infection Prevention Education Requirements
