Summary

The Environmental Services Technician is responsible for maintaining a safe and sanitary environment in patient/resident rooms and areas, following infection control, safety, and procedural guidelines. Tasks include but are not limited to emptying waste baskets, sweeping, scrubbing, waxing, or polishing floors using brooms, mops, or powered machinery.

Job Description

Demonstrate knowledge of housekeeping processes, tools, and techniques in a healthcare environment to provide a clean and sterile environment for patients/residents and staff. Responsibilities include cleaning patient/resident rooms, hallways, lobbies, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, locker rooms, and other areas to meet health standards. Use proper protective equipment, keep storage and equipment tidy, and utilize technology such as pagers appropriately. Assist in laundry areas as needed and use technology applications when available.

Physical activities involve considerable use of arms and legs, lifting (up to 40-50 lbs), pushing/pulling, and being on your feet for most of the shift. May be exposed to noise from equipment. Work hours vary based on patient/resident needs and may include overtime, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Six months of housekeeping or commercial cleaning experience preferred. Ability to use computers and knowledge of cleaning materials, equipment, and chemicals is helpful. Strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills are required. Previous custodial experience in healthcare is preferred.
