Job summary

Intermountain Health Layton Hospital in Utah is seeking a PRN Environmental Services Technician for the Afternoon/Evening shift (3:00pm - 11:30pm). You will clean and disinfect assigned areas, support infection prevention, and ensure clinical and public spaces meet Joint Commission standards.

This role requires flexible scheduling, the ability to work across departments including ER, OR, and patient rooms, and professional housekeeping experience is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated communication skills to include differentiating color-coded labels and/or chemicals as well as following written and/or verbal directions.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule when needed to meet the needs of the department.
  • Demonstrated professional housekeeping experience. (Preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Clean and disinfect assigned areas using department cleaning procedures.
  • Uses cleaning chemicals properly according to Joint Commission and OSHA standards.
  • Understands procedures and properly disposes of infectious waste and trash.
  • Handles and cleans up emergency spills per department guideline, Joint commission, and OSHA standards.
  • Follows all infection prevention practices (i.e. proper cleaning and disinfection protocols and process, hand hygiene, standard & isolation precautions, as well as proper donning and doffing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Maintains work and storage areas following established policy and procedures to ensure safety.

Job Description

PRN Afternoon / Evening position (3:00pm - 11:30pm) Most PRN candidates work 2-3 shifts per week and will know the schedule at least a week in advance. This position is responsible for performing general housekeeping tasks to maintain the facility and associated buildings in a sanitary, safe, and attractive condition and to meet hospital and Joint Commission standards.

Pay Rate: Depending on experience

Shift Details: PRN (0-40 hrs/wk) Afternoon / Evening Shift (3:00pm - 11:30pm), will also include rotating weekends as needed by the department. Flexibility is required to accommodate occasional short-notice scheduling needs and shift coverage opportunities. Most PRN candidates work 2-3 shifts per week and will know the schedule at least a week in advance.

Additional Details

This position requires working throughout the facility in a variety of assigned areas such as the Emergency Department, Operating Room, medical office buildings, lobbies, patient rooms, and discharge areas.

Physical Requirements

Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, monitors, identify equipment and supplies, and be able to assess customer needs.

Frequent interactions with customers require employee to communicate as well as understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately.

Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer, phone, and cable set-up and use.

Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transport, pull, and push equipment. Will also work on hands and knees and bend to set-up, troubleshoot, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
