Responsibilities

  • Provide direct supervision to EVS staff on assigned shift.
  • Assign daily work based on needs, priority areas, and staffing levels.
  • Monitor performance, conduct inspections, address quality concerns in real time.
  • Serve as primary contact for healthcare staff; manage cleaning requests and emergent needs.
  • Handle scheduling, timecards, leave requests, attendance, and conflict resolution.
  • Hire, onboard, train new staff; coach and manage performance.
  • Ensure proper use of PPE and cleaning supplies; report maintenance or inventory needs.
  • Complete shift documentation: checklists, incident reports, daily logs, hand-off summaries.
  • Enforce infection prevention and safety protocols across all duties and tasks.
  • Escalate complex issues to EVS senior leadership.

Position Summary

The Section Supervisor provides direct supervision, coordination, and support for Environmental Services staff on their assigned shift and location. This position ensures the completion of cleaning, disinfection, linen operations, and floor care tasks in accordance with hospital policies, regulatory requirements, and accrediting agencies. The Section Supervisor acts as the point of contact for performance oversight, task delegation, and emergent needs.

Position Responsibilities
  • Provide direct supervision to EVS Associates on their assigned shift.
  • Assign daily work based on operational needs, priority areas, and staffing levels.
  • Monitor team performance, conduct inspections, and address quality concerns in real time.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for healthcare staff, including managing customer service calls, inputting scheduled cleaning requests, resolving emergent cleaning requests, and assessing cleaning project requests.
  • Manage personnel matters for direct reports including scheduling, timecard approvals, leave requests, attendance tracking, and conflict resolution.
  • Responsible for hiring, onboarding and training new staff, and provide coaching and performance management.
  • Ensure proper use of equipment, PPE, and cleaning supplies; report maintenance issues or inventory needs.
  • Complete shift documentation including checklists, incident reports, daily activity logs, and hand-off summaries.
  • Enforce infection prevention and safety protocols across all duties and task assignments.
  • Escalate complex personnel or operational issues to the EVS senior leadership.
KNOWLEDGE And SKILLS
  • Knowledge of hospital sanitation, infection control, and floor care.
  • Knowledge of Joint Commission, OSHA, and other applicable State and Federal regulatory standards.
  • Skill in leading teams of environmental services professionals.
  • Skill in effective communication with healthcare professionals.
  • Ability to prioritize and adapt to rapid changes in a healthcare environment.
MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATION

High School diploma or GED equivalent. Employee can substitute one year of experience with ANTHC in lieu of education.

Minimum Experience Qualification

Non-supervisory - Five (5) years of work experience, two (2) years of which are in a healthcare setting.

Preferred Education Qualification

Associates' degree in healthcare administration, environmental services, safety, hospitality, business or related field. Progressively responsible professional work experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for college education.

Preferred Experience Qualification

Supervisory – Two (2) years of experience in environmental services leadership.

Preferred Certification Qualification

AHE Trainer of Certified Health Care Environmental Services Technician (T-CHEST) or equivalent certification.

Additional Requirements

Depending on the needs of the organization, some incumbents in this job class may be required to obtain additional certifications or training in one or more specialty areas.
