Environmental Services Director
Summary

This position is responsible for the supervision of the housekeeping operations and their respective employees. This includes the responsibility to perform duties necessary to ensure that the building is maintained in a clean and sanitary manner and the responsibility to ensure the day to day Maintenance is done timely and efficiently. This is a working director position, Required to be on call for maintenance-related emergencies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Must be able to work cooperatively as a team.
  • Keeps confidential all patient/employee information received.
  • Adheres to the facility policies and procedures.
  • Participates in screening of job applicants, hiring new employees, and recommending promotions, transfers, and dismissals.
  • Responsible for ensuring adequate staffing to perform the duties required of the housekeeping and laundry departments, while staying within the specified budget allocated to each respective department.
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining an accurate schedule for all employees of the housekeeping and laundry departments and ensuring that it is displayed in an area that is accessible to the employees.
  • Monitors and orders housekeeping supplies (paper goods, cleaning supplies, etc.) to ensure that there is adequate supply for the facility.
  • Monitors and orders laundry supplies (linens, chemicals, etc.) to ensure that there is adequate supply for the facility.
  • Assigns housekeepers their specific duties with regards to the cleaning of resident rooms, bathrooms, utility rooms, hallways, dining areas, common areas, and office areas.
  • Supervises the completion of housekeeping duties by way of walk-thru inspections and direct observation to ensure that the facility is maintained in a clean and sanitary manner.
  • Ensures the smooth running of the facility by performing a variety of duties in and around the facility
  • Must operate machinery and equipment, maintain in good repair, and store in an orderly fashion.
  • Be able to handle and use simple electrical and plumbing equipment and make minor repairs.
  • Be able to carry, push, and pull large equipment in and out of facility.
  • Ensure that facility grounds are neat and in order.
  • Run errands as needed for supplies—requires driving a motor vehicle.
  • Follow a Preventative Maintenance schedule to ensure the proper care and functioning of essential equipment in the facility.
  • Participates in inspections (surveys) conducted by authorized agencies.
  • Participates in quality assurance and improvement processes within the facility.
  • Investigates complaints regarding housekeeping and equipment and takes corrective action.
  • Conducts in-service training to new/existing housekeeping and/or laundry employees to explain policies, work procedures, and to demonstrate use and maintenance of equipment.
  • Makes recommendations to improve service and ensure more efficient operation.
  • Performs housekeeping duties in cases of emergency or staff shortage.
  • Performs floor tech duties on a regular basis to assist in maintaining the appearance and integrity of the buildings flooring.
  • Performs other duties as determined by the Administrator.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school graduate or GED required. Knowledge of maintaining operations within the constraints of a financial budget is required. Knowledge of effectively scheduling employees is required.
