Job summary

IU Health Methodist Hospital is seeking Environmental Services staff to ensure a clean, safe environment by cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfecting patient rooms, offices, clinics, and public spaces in line with infection control standards.

You will remove hazardous waste, support patient safety and care delivery, and collaborate with clinical teams to maintain high cleanliness in high-acuity areas such as IR, OR, ED, NICU, and Mother-Baby.

Qualifications

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience preferred.
• No prior experience required; training provided.
• Ability to wear PPE and meet physical demands (standing, lifting up to 35 pounds or more).
• Ability to operate light cleaning equipment and climb ladders.

Overview

Status: Full-time.

Schedule: Rotating weekends and holidays required.

Shift Differentials: Eligible based on assigned shift.

Location: IU Health Methodist Hospital

Standardized Shifts Times:

First Shift: 8:00am - 4:30pm.

Mid-Shift-Discharge: 2:00pm - 10:30pm (Discharges only).

Second Shift: 3:00pm - 11:30pm.

Mid-Shift-Afternoon: 5:00pm - 1:30am.

Third Shift-Overnight: 12:00am (Midnight) - 8:30am.

Position Summary

Provides cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfection services to support a safe, clean, and welcoming hospital environment. Responsible for maintaining patient rooms, offices, clinics, clinical and procedural areas, and public spaces in accordance with infection control standards and hospital policies. Supports patient safety and care delivery through consistent, high-quality environmental services. Demonstrates the ability to clean and disinfect high-acuity clinical and procedural areas using approved tools, products, and protocols. Safely removes hazardous and biohazardous waste in compliance with safety regulations and infection prevention guidelines. Proactively communicates and collaborates with clinical teams to ensure cleaning processes support patient safety and care flow.

Attendance Expectations:

Reliable attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this position. Team members are expected to consistently report to work as scheduled to support patient care, operational needs, and departmental staffing requirements.

Position Requirements:

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience preferred
• No prior experience required; training provided
• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including gowns, gloves, goggles, and rubber-soled, closed-toe footwear, as required by the work environment and regulatory standards
• Ability to meet physical demands of the role, including reaching, standing for extended periods, squatting, bending, and lifting/carrying supplies and equipment weighing 35 pounds or more, up to 80% of the workday
• Ability to operate light floor-cleaning equipment in patient care areas
• Ability to climb ladders
• Ability to perform technical cleaning in specialized and high-acuity areas, including Interventional Radiology (IR), Cardiac Catheterization Lab, Mother-Baby, NICU, Operating Room (OR), and Emergency Department (ED)
