Job summary

Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital is seeking an Environmental Services Area Cleaner to help maintain a clean, safe patient environment on the Treasure Coast. You will work with state-of-the-art technology and be part of a collaborative, compassionate team in a world-class healthcare system.

Responsibilities include cleaning patient rooms, offices and restrooms, stocking supplies, following SOPs, and completing 1–3 months of on-the-job training.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Ability to perform routine cleaning tasks in a hospital setting.
  • Ability to stand and move for extended periods, and to lift up to 100 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Clean patient rooms, ancillary areas, exam rooms, offices and waiting areas.
  • Wipe surfaces, clean spills, empty trash and clean furniture.
  • Stock paper items and other supplies in exam rooms and restrooms.
  • Inform team leader when supplies are low and follow SOPs.
  • Follow safety requirements and use protective equipment.
  • Complete on-the-job training to learn policies, procedures and cleaning techniques.

Cleveland Clinic’s Environmental Services Department is consistently among the highest-performing EVS teams in healthcare, and we’re looking to add an Environmental Services Area Cleaner to our team to create the comfortable and safe environment our patients have come to expect. The Environmental Services Area Cleaner role is a steppingstone to other careers within Environmental Services and other departments within Cleveland Clinic.

A caregiver in this position works 1st, 2nd or 3rd shift, including rotating weekends and holidays.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Clean patient rooms, ancillary areas, exam rooms, offices, waiting areas, public restrooms, discharge rooms and other assigned areas.
  • Wipe down surfaces, clean spills, empty garbage cans, clean furniture and other tasks as assigned.
  • Stock paper items and other supplies in exam rooms and restrooms.
  • Inform team leader and supervisory team when low on supplies.
  • Follow departmental policies and standard operating procedures.
  • Follow and adhere to hospital wide and departmental quality and safety requirements.
  • Complete one to three months of on-the-job training to learn departmental policies and procedures, various cleaning techniques and proper use and storage of cleaning agents and chemicals.

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • High School Diploma or GED

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods
  • Ability to be mobile for extended periods of time
  • Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment
  • Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information
  • Ability to move/transport items weighing up to 10 pounds (lbs.)
  • Ability to move/transport equipment weighing up to 10 pounds (lbs.)
  • Ability to move/transport carts weighing up to or more than 100 pounds (lbs.)
  • Ability to inspect equipment
  • Ability to clean, operate cleaning equipment and use cleaning products
  • May come into contact with communicable diseases and/or body fluids

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
