Job Description

Performs cleaning duties as well as other tasks performed by the Environmental Services department. Adheres to NS-LIJHS/departmental policies and procedures and JCAHO/regulatory agency requirements.

Job Responsibilities

1. Demonstrates good judgment and organization skills when performing cleaning duties on units.
2. Responsible for maintaining equipment, carts, and closets daily.
3. Cleans and services patient rooms, offices, lavatories, conference rooms, lounges, exam rooms, on-call rooms, clean and dirty utility rooms, and showers daily.
4. Performs trash removal, vacuuming carpets, dry mopping and wet mopping floors, high and low dusting of furniture, walls, ledges, and fixtures.
5. Refills paper towel, toilet paper, seat cover, and soap dispensers daily.
6. Knowledgeable of all environmental cleaning products (chemicals) and their proper usage (dilutions) as per manufacturer's recommendations.
7. Notifies supervisor immediately of any injuries (accidents), safety issues, or serious personnel situations.
8. Responsible for cleaning and disinfecting patient rooms upon discharge, as well as cycle cleaning of isolation rooms per department and infection control standards.
9. Cleans operating rooms between cases and performs terminal cleaning of OR rooms at end of day.
10. Collects trash from the dirty utility room and disposes of it, removes all cardboard for disposal, and transports regulated waste to storage trailers.
11. Responsible for removal and hanging of cubicle curtains when necessary.
12. Must be flexible in assuming required assignments and show good judgment and initiative.
13. Performs related duties as required.

ADA Essential Functions

Physical Demands:

1. Ability to fill and dump 3-5 gallon pails filled with water (weighing up to 25 pounds).
2. Ability to move a cleaning cart on wheels (filled with supplies weighing up to 100 pounds).
3. Ability to step up on a safety stool 2-4 steps.
4. Ability to lift hands over head to hang and take down cubicle curtains (weighing up to 20 pounds), wash ceilings, walls, and high windows.
5. Ability to move patient furniture.
6. Requires continuous moving, lifting, and bending during 7.5-hour shifts.
7. Must be able to communicate face-to-face and by telephone.

Job Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Environmental Services experience in a hospital preferred.
• Must possess effective communication skills.
