Job summary

Kearney County Health Services is seeking an Environmental Service Tech to maintain a clean, safe hospital environment for patients and staff. This role offers part-time or full-time schedules with evening hours and rotating shifts.

You will perform daily cleaning, operate housekeeping equipment, dispose of waste per regulations, and support infection control by disinfecting patient areas and operating rooms as needed.

Qualifications

  • Healthcare cleaning experience preferred.
  • Must follow safety and sanitation protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily cleaning tasks of the facility including hospital, clinic, public patient areas, and office areas.
  • Ensure proper use of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
  • Disinfect and sanitize operating rooms and surgical suites between surgeries and at day end.
  • Maintain dust-free, clean areas including offices, patient rooms, ER, and common spaces.
  • Keep floors clean and in good condition; sweeping, mopping, waxing, and vacuuming.
  • Ensure soap and paper towel dispensers are stocked and maintained.
  • Prepare and organize supply carts for the next day.

Description

Days and Hours: **Multiple scheduling options are available**

Full time (benefited): 40 hours per week (preferred)

  • 1:00 PM - 9:00 PM
  • Holiday Rotation (required)

OR

Part time (non-benefited): 12-18 hours per week

  • Weekdays – Afternoon / Early Evening (cleaning of operating room / surgical suite between and after surgical cases)
  • One Sunday shift per month preferred (flexible hours)
  • 4:00 AM - 8:00 AM or 5:00 PM - 9:00 pm
  • Weekdays

Reports To: Director of Environmental Services

Position Summary: Provide a safe, clean and comfortable environment for patients in accordance with the healthcare laws and regulations of the State of Nebraska, and the directives, policies, and budgets established by KCHS.

Essential Job Functions Duties and Responsibilities

Perform daily cleaning tasks of the facility including the hospital, clinic, public patient areas, and office areas

  • Understand daily cleaning tasks, know where all environmental services supplies are located and how to correctly use them.
  • Understand and carry out correct use of all chemicals.
  • Ensure the Operating Room/Surgical Suite is sterile and safe by cleaning, disinfecting, and sanitizing OR tables, equipment, and floors between surgeries and at end of day
  • May also be tasked with ensuring other areas of the facility (offices, patient rooms, clinic rooms, ER, bathrooms, and hallways) are dust free, clean, and sanitized (including but not limited to: corners, ceilings, floors, walls, vents, mirrors, cubical curtains, shades, furnishings)
  • Keep all floors clean and in good conditions, may include; sweeping, mopping, stripping, waxing, vacuuming and shampooing.
  • Keep all soap and paper towel dispensers clean, sanitized and stocked.
  • Keep all utility and store rooms clean, stocked and organized.
  • Make sure all carts are cleaned and supplies are stocked and ready for the next day before leaving at the end of the day

Complete all work lists daily, weekly, and monthly

  • Follow proper procedure while completing all work assignments and paperwork.
  • Job and corresponding paperwork must be completed accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Insure all paperwork is turned in when it is due.
  • Understand when and how to correctly submit work orders for any repairs needed

Use all housekeeping equipment properly

  • Understand how to correctly use all housekeeping equipment, including vacuums, shampooers, microfiber moping system, nano edge, walk behind floor scrubber, buffers, zamboni, etc.
  • Follow manufacturer recommendations and facility procedure when using all equipment.
  • Clean all equipment as scheduled along with as needed to insure it is clean and in good working order. Report any issues with equipment to the Director of Environmental Services as soon as possible.
  • Sanitize all equipment used for isolation or spills immediately after use.

Perform laundry tasks on rotating basis

  • Understand how to correctly use all laundry equipment, including scale, washers, dryers, etc.
  • Follow correct procedure when picking up soiled linens and delivering clean linens to all areas of the facility.
  • Accurately sort and weigh linen and right the weight down to the appropriate department.
  • Treat soiled linens and wash and dry linens according to proper procedure.
  • Remove all stained and worn out linens from inventory and document removal.
  • Get new laundry out of the storeroom as necessary to maintain an adequate supply. Correctly document what new laundry is gotten out.

Handle bio-hazardous waste

  • Understand how to properly handle bio-hazardous waste.
  • Correctly remove and handle all biohazard materials.

Follow all regulations, policies, and procedures

  • Understand we are required to follow facility, state and federal regulations and that following them is not negotiating.
  • Know how to find the department policies and procedures or ask a supervisor when you have questions.
  • Help insure policies are up to date, correct and followed.
  • Do not work over 40 hours without prior approval of the department director.
  • Report to work well groomed and observe established uniform/dress guidelines, including visibly wearing a name identification badge.
