Description:
Provides environmental support to the hospital, primarily assisting nursing units to ensure a safe, clean environment. Responsible for preparing rooms for admitted, transferred, and discharged patients. Performs daily cleaning tasks, manages supplies for patient rooms, units, nursing stations, lounges, restrooms, offices, and other areas as assigned, following standard procedures of the environmental services department.
Maintains isolation precautions as indicated and recognizes their role in infection control. Performs routine cleaning and freshening per protocols, including terminal cleaning upon patient discharge following the 10-step process. Cleans and polishes metal or bright surfaces, and dusts horizontal and vertical surfaces from top down. Cleans high areas such as window tops and door frames using ladders when necessary. Washes sinks, plumbing fixtures, and replaces consumables like paper towels, soap, and toilet paper.
Spot cleans walls and windows, washes walls and ceilings, cleans spills, and responds promptly to urgent situations. Follows the 4-step process for cleaning floors and carpets, including sweeping, mopping with wet floor signs, vacuuming, and spot cleaning carpets. Cleans brooms and changes cleaning solutions as needed every third room or as required. Uses detergents, disinfectants, polishes, and finishes appropriately, following MSDS guidelines. Safely operates equipment, reports broken items, and notifies management of issues. Signs out pagers at shift start and returns them at shift end. Uses standard precautions at all times and demonstrates proper use of PPE and safety equipment such as gloves, gowns, masks, and eye shields. Applies good body mechanics when lifting, pushing, or pulling patients or objects.
