Job summary

Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis seeks a part-time Environmental Services Worker to clean inpatient and outpatient areas, prepare rooms, and maintain equipment in a safe, sanitary environment. You will support infection control, safety policies and assist with meeting setups as needed.

Role requires English communication, physical fitness, CPI training within 3 months, and a positive team attitude. 20 hours weekly, rotating evenings 4p-8p, every other weekend and holidays.

Qualifications

• Ability to communicate in English to understand and respond to basic verbal and written English language instruction.
• Ability to perform physical requirements of position as outlined.
• CPI Training within 3 months of new position in In-Patient Psych Unit.
• Positive attitude, cooperative, team-oriented demeanor with patients and staff.

Responsibilities

• Cleans/Terminal Cleans/Sanitize assigned areas per procedures.
• Prepares patient rooms for occupancy and inputs into room readiness system.
• Maintains clean and orderly equipment/closets and cleans equipment at shift end.
• Performs specialized cleaning in CCU rooms, nurseries, isolation rooms.
• Maintains cleanliness of environment and reports equipment problems.
• Sets up meetings and functions with appropriate A/V equipment, buffing floors, carpet cleaning.
• Performs duties independently with minimal supervision.
• Removes trash and medical waste, transports to disposal area.
• Handles cleaning chemicals per labeling and safety procedures.
• Wears PPE and follows safety regulations; participates in trainings.

Purpose of Position

Perform a variety of general cleaning tasks to maintain all inpatient and outpatient areas, offices, corridors, stairwells, elevators, furniture, public and other assigned areas of Hospital in a clean, sanitary and safe condition, in accordance with all operating procedures, infection control and safety policies. Displays proper conduct when dealing with patients, visitors and all hospital staff.

Description

• Cleans/Terminal Cleans/Sanitize assigned areas in accordance with operating procedures using proper equipment, chemicals and supplies.
• Prepares patient rooms for occupancy, per operating procedures and inputs into approved room ready notification system.
• Maintains all equipment/closets used to perform job in a clean and orderly condition. Clean all equipment at the end of the shift.
• Performs specialized cleaning procedures in accordance with operating procedures. e.g. CCU procedure room, nurseries, isolation rooms.
• Maintaining cleanliness of environment, cleaning kitchen area, med rooms, employee bathrooms, janitor closet, refrigerators, microwave, etc., all clinical equipment on unit, wheelchairs, stretchers, scales, bedside tables, IV poles etc,. Reports problems with equipment to the charge nurse.
• Set up meetings and functions/supply appropriate A/V equipment. Spray buffs or high-speed burnishes tile floors. Spot cleans carpets; buffs carpets in corridors and rooms; moves cleaning equipment, supplies within or between hospital buildings; moves furniture as requested.
• Performs all duties in an independent manner with little or no supervision.
• Removes general trash, medical waste soiled/used linen, from work area and place in specified bags and/or containers. Transport to assigned disposal area.
• Handles cleaning chemicals and solutions per product labeling and departmental procedures.
• Utilizes housekeeping equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
• Wears appropriate personal protective equipment as per training, signage and product labels. Adheres to safety regulations as per departmental training (e.g. wet floor signs, caution tape, electrical cords laid along wall).
• Participates in in-service educational programs and staff meetings.
• Performs other work related duties as requested/directed.

Qualifications

• Ability to communicate in English to understand and respond to basic verbal and written English language instruction.
• Ability to perform physical requirements of position as outlined.
• Crisis Prevention Intervention Training within 3 months of new position for positions in the In-Patient Psych Unit.
• Position requires a person with a positive attitude who is pleasant, cooperative, committed to the team approach and displays a professional demeanor with patients, families, physicians and fellow workers.
