Job summary

Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services seeks an Environmental Specialist II to perform field sampling, laboratory analyses, and computer modeling of water quality. The role supports shellfish habitat management and coastal water programs across the district.

The position requires a mix of fieldwork, data analysis, and reporting, with travel and regulatory compliance as core components. Applicants must meet education and licensure requirements and complete mandatory safety

Qualifications

• Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent and one year of experience in environmental protection, regulation, public health, or related fields.
• Or a high school diploma or its equivalent with six months of experience as an Environmental Specialist I or higher with the State of Florida.
• Or a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Responsibilities

• Determines proper monitoring programs and collects samples for laboratory analysis.
• Performs computer modeling of environmental water quality parameters.
• Conducts shoreline surveys and evaluates pollution sources to develop management plans.
• Maintains district office, equipment, and vehicles; files administrative reports.
• Attends meetings and reviews water quality and shellfish documents.
• Assists other districts statewide in surveys and analyses.
