Job summary
ASRC Energy Services, LLC (AES) seeks an Environmental Scientist II / Geologist II to independently lead contaminated site investigations, remediation work, and environmental compliance projects across Alaska, including remote and Arctic environments. The role involves field leadership, data evaluation, and mentorship of junior staff.
The successful candidate should meet Alaska DEC QEP requirements on hire and will travel statewide, with field seasons concentrated in summer/fall.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in environmental science, geology, environmental engineering, chemistry, or related field.
- Four or more years of progressively responsible environmental consulting, contaminated sites, or remediation experience.
- Meet the education and experience requirements to perform as an Alaska DEC Qualified Environmental Professional (QEP) under 18 AAC 75.333(b) upon hire.
- Demonstrated experience with contaminated site investigations, site characterization, soil and groundwater sampling, monitoring well installation, environmental data evaluation, and technical report preparation.
- Working knowledge of Alaska contaminated sites requirements under 18 AAC 75 and 18 AAC 78 and familiarity with applicable CERCLA, RCRA, DOT hazardous materials, and OSHA requirements.
- Experience managing investigation-derived waste and contaminated environmental media, including characterization, profiling, container management, transportation coordination, and disposal documentation.
- Strong technical writing, data interpretation, and communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical information effectively to clients, regulators, subcontractors, and other stakeholders.
- Valid state driver's license and ability to meet the AES Driving Records and Motor Vehicle Use Policy.
Responsibilities
- Plan and execute contaminated site investigations, site characterization, and remediation projects.
- Lead field programs including soil borings, monitoring well installation and development, groundwater sampling, soil excavation oversight, and confirmation sampling.
- Independently prepare work plans, site characterization and cleanup reports, technical memoranda, and regulatory correspondence.
- Interpret analytical and field data and develop technically sound conclusions and recommendations.
- Perform as a QEP on environmental projects and provide oversight and technical direction to field staff and Qualified Samplers.
- Coordinate with clients, subcontractors, laboratories, regulators, and project managers to support successful project execution.
- Manage investigation-derived waste, contaminated environmental media, and hazardous or non‑hazardous waste in accordance with applicable project, state, federal, RCRA, and DOT requirements.
- Support waste characterization, profiling, container management, labeling, staging, transportation coordination, manifesting, and disposal documentation.
- Maintain and review accurate field documentation, boring and monitoring well logs, groundwater records, chain‑of‑custody documentation, and waste tracking records.
- Mentor junior scientists and geologists and provide technical guidance during field investigations, data evaluation, and report preparation.
- Support proposal development, cost estimating, scheduling, project planning, and task‑level project management.

The Environmental Scientist II / Geologist II independently performs and leads contaminated site investigations, remediation activities, waste management efforts, and environmental compliance projects for AERS clients throughout Alaska. This position leads field investigations, prepares technical deliverables, evaluates environmental data, coordinates project tasks, and mentors junior technical staff. The successful candidate will meet the education and experience requirements to perform as an Alaska DEC Qualified Environmental Professional (QEP) upon hire and will routinely support work in remote and Arctic environments.
* Location: Anchorage, Alaska. Office-based, with field assignments statewide.
* Schedule: Field assignments commonly range from several days to two or three weeks. Longer deployments may occasionally be required depending on project needs and field location.
* Travel: Regular travel throughout Alaska, including remote and Arctic locations accessible by commercial aircraft, charter aircraft, or other project-specific transportation.
* Field season: Field work is concentrated during the summer and fall, with technical reporting, project planning, data evaluation, proposal development, and training throughout the year.

- Experience working in remote or Arctic Alaska.
- Experience leading field crews and coordinating subcontractors.
- Professional registration or certification such as PG, PE, CHMM, or PMP, preferred but not required.
- Experience supporting proposals, cost estimates, schedules, or task‑level project management.

While working on the North Slope of Alaska, your lodging and food will be provided to you. All camps provide warm meals and options to grab a quick lunch or snack from the spike rooms. Rooms vary from single status to shared rooms where your roommate may work the opposite shift. Wi-Fi and Internet is free and available within the camp. Services vary depending upon where you are staying; however, most facilities offer housekeeping, self‑serve laundry, commissary, mail, gyms, TV/Theater Room, etc. Each facility will have their own accommodations and policies that will be reviewed upon on‑site orientation.
