Job summary

Jacobs is seeking an Environmental Scientist to advance environmental site characterization and remediation for government and private-sector clients, with field and office work in a hybrid setup. The role includes preparing permits, conducting wetland delineations, and coordinating with regulatory agencies.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years with USACE/NJDEP permitting, 7+ years preparing permit applications, and a US citizenship. A Master’s degree and related certifications are a plus.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, ecology, environmental science, or other related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience with USACE and NJDEP environmental permitting.
  • Minimum 7 years experience independently preparing federal, state, and local environmental permit applications for projects related to transportation, commercial, and/or energy sectors.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Willingness to work under inclement conditions.
  • Demonstrated competency with wetland delineations per USACE Handbook and regional supplements; and the 1989 Federal Interagency Wetland Delineation Manual.
  • 40-hr HAZWOPER certification or ability to attain it.
  • United States Citizenship.
  • Masters degree in biology, ecology, environmental science, or related discipline.
  • PWS certification.
  • Direct experience with NJDOT and/or NJTPA.
  • Experience with linear development projects (natural gas/oil/water pipeline, electric transmission).
  • USFWS qualified bog turtle surveyor.
  • Additional state or federal wildlife permits/quals.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare federal, state, and local environmental permit applications for projects.
  • Conduct wetland delineations and habitat assessments.
  • Coordinate with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies.
  • Project management or assistant project management; mentor junior staff.
