Job summary

Certerra Southwest, a leading engineering consulting firm, seeks an Environmental Scientist to join our Tucson, AZ office. You will conduct field and office duties to support senior team leaders, with assignments across the southwestern United States, primarily in Arizona.

Ideal candidates have 1–3 years of experience in environmental or industrial hygiene consulting, strong writing and data organization skills, and familiarity with EPA/OSHA regulations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in environmental science or related field is required or strongly preferred.
• 1–3 years of experience in environmental or industrial hygiene consulting.
• Experience with environmental sampling techniques including soil, groundwater, air, and building materials.
• Knowledge of federal and state environmental regulations (EPA, OSHA, ADEQ, etc.).
• Strong technical writing and data organization skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct field sampling and inspections for soil, groundwater, air, and building materials.
• Perform Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ASTM E1527-21) including historical records review, site reconnaissance, and preparation of technical reports.
• Perform Phase II environmental investigations including soil, groundwater, and soil vapor sampling under the direction of project managers.
• Conduct asbestos building inspections and bulk sampling in accordance with AHERA and state regulatory requirements.
• Conduct lead-based paint inspections and risk assessments using XRF analyzers and paint chip sampling techniques.
• Perform indoor air quality (IAQ) monitoring including collection of samples for VOCs, mold spores, particulate matter, and other indoor contaminants.
