Job summary

The Nevada Division of Environmental Protection is seeking a qualified Environmental Scientist to advance watershed health and water quality in Carson City. You will communicate with stakeholders, develop improvements, coordinate grant-supported efforts, and help manage contracts and subawards to ensure compliant, timely results.

This role also supports program updates, informs the public about nonpoint source pollution and water protection, and prepares quarterly and annual reports in alignment

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in physical, natural resource or life sciences, engineering or related field with four years of professional environmental experience.
  • Alternative: high school or equivalent with six years of professional environmental experience.
  • One year of Environmental Scientist 3 experience in Nevada State service.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience accepted.

Responsibilities

Job description

Position Tasks and Duties

Specific duties of this position include communication and coordination with stakeholders, developing plans to improve watershed health and water quality, coordinating grant supported efforts that address improvement of watersheds. Additional work includes administering grant subawards- including the development of workplans and budgets and managing contracts to ensure successful outcomes and compliance with grant terms and conditions; assisting with special projects (e.g. updating the SMP); informing audiences about NPS pollution, watershed stewardship, and water quality protection; reporting quarterly and annually as well as record keeping within EPA's Grants Reporting and Tracking System.

Location, Salary, Benefits

This is a permanent, full‑time position located in Carson City, Nevada. The capital of Nevada is uniquely situated on the east side of the Sierra Nevada mountains, 15 minutes from the Lake Tahoe watershed, 30 minutes from Reno, 3.5 hours from Yosemite/Bishop.

Pay ranges from approximately $73,300 - $109,600 based on qualified experience.

Essential Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the physical, natural resource or life sciences, engineering or closely related field and four years of professional environmental experience which involved environmental program research and planning; OR graduation from high school or equivalent and six years of professional environmental experience as described above; OR one year of experience as an Environmental Scientist 3 in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
