Job summary

Carlson McCain, Inc. is seeking a field technician based in Plymouth, MN, to support site investigation and remediation efforts. You will log soils, classify samples, oversee monitoring wells, and collect diverse media samples to aid data interpretation and technical reporting.

The role requires a Geology/Environmental Science degree and 1–2 years of relevant experience, with familiarity in Phase I/II ESAs and MPCA programs. A valid license and potential overnight travel are expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Geology, Environmental Science, Hydrogeology, or related discipline.
  • 1–2 years of geology and environmental services experience.
  • Familiarity with the environmental site assessment process (Phase I/II ESAs).
  • Familiarity with underground storage tank removals and MPCA Petroleum Remediation Program.
  • Good time-management and ability to track hours for multiple projects.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to drive a company vehicle.

Responsibilities

Job description

Description: Perform a variety of field tasks including oversight and documentation during site investigation and remediation; soil boring logging, including soil classification and sample collection; monitoring well installation oversight and documentation; measurements and testing on monitoring wells, soil vapor probes, and related instrumentation; sampling of various media including soil, groundwater, surface water, soil gas, and solid waste. Compile and analyze field data and assist with interpretation of data and preparation of technical reports. Correspond as needed with clients, contractors, laboratories, etc. Research environmental information and compile findings into summary reports and figures.

This position will be based out of our office in Plymouth, Minnesota. However, the position will require working outside atfield sites, as needed, and will require some overnight travel. Travel is anticipated to be primarily within Minnesota, with potential travel throughout North Dakota and South Dakota as needed. Overnight travel time is not expected to exceed 25%. The position may require occasional use of an employee’s vehicle to travel to and from project sites; occasionally transporting project equipment. In such instances, the Company will provide reimbursement for work-related mileage.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Geology, Environmental Science, Hydrogeology, or related discipline.
  • 1-2 years of experience in geology and environmental services.
  • Familiarity with the environmental site assessment process (i.e. Phase I/II ESAs).
  • Familiarity with underground storage tank removals and the MPCA Petroleum Remediation Program.
  • Good time-management and ability to track hours for a variety of projects.
  • Valid driver’s license, and able to drive a company vehicle as necessary.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER certification.
  • Geologist‐in‐training certification or related certification which will lead to a state professional licensure as a geologist, hydrogeologist or related profession.

The salary range is expected to be between $50,000 and $60,000 per year. Compensation will be based on qualifications and experience.
