Job summary

SCS Engineers is seeking an energetic environmental professional to join our Southwest team in Long Beach, CA. On‑site in Long Beach with field work across Southern California, you’ll perform Phase I ESAs, Phase II investigations, and multi‑media sampling while coordinating with clients and regulators.

The role requires a geology/environmental science degree and at least 2 years of related experience, with strong writing, communication, and regulatory knowledge.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Engineering or related field required.
• Minimum of 2 years of related environmental experience required.
• Well versed in water quality, environmental regulations and environmental assessment/remediation.

Responsibilities

• A mix of office and field work expected.
• Conduct Phase I Environmental Site Assessments and Phase II Investigations per ASTM Standards.
• Perform multi‑media sampling (soil, groundwater, indoor air, etc.).
• Oversee abatement of asbestos and/or lead‑based paint.
• Supervise contractors for regulatory and safety compliance.
• Prepare lithological and boring logs and reports.
• Manage field days across Southern California and communicate status to clients.
• Support proposal development and project documentation.
• Potential to manage small to mid‑scale projects.
• Communicate project status and compliance with clients and regulators.

Job description

SCS Engineers is seeking an energetic, forward-thinking environmental services professional to join our Southwest environmental services team. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, organized, embraces teamwork, is eager to learn, and has the desire to grow and develop professionally. Must be detail-oriented and a team player with great communication, strong technical writing, analytical, organizational, and time management skills. This role is on-site in our Long Beach, CA office when not in the field.

How you can make an impact

• A mixture of office and field work expected
• Conducting Phase I Environmental Site Assessments and Phase II Investigations in accordance with ASTM Standards
• Multi-media sampling (soil, soil vapor, groundwater, indoor air, methane, surface water, sediment, etc.)
• Abatement oversight of asbestos containing materials and/or lead-based paint
• Supervise contractors during field activities for regulatory and safety compliance
• Lithological logging and boring log preparation
• Report writing and preparation of supporting documentation
• Long field days and work at job sites throughout Southern California can be expected with this position
• Proposal preparation
• Potential to manage small to mid-scale projects and provide support on larger projects
• Communicating project status, schedules and compliance issues with clients, third parties, and regulatory agents

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Engineering or related field required
• Minimum of 2 years of related environmental experience required
• Must be well versed in water quality, environmental regulations and environmental assessment/remediation.
• Microsoft Office and computer programs (AutoCAD, Surfer, and/or ArcGIS preferred), field equipment experience preferred
• HAZWOPER training completed and up to date
• Asbestos coursework up to date and Certified Site Surveillance Technician (CSST) certification preferred.
• Progress towards professional certification (PE/PG) preferred
• Good communication and writing skills required
• Valid driver’s license with driving record in good standing required

Pay Range

USD $71,000.00 – USD $81,000.00 /Yr.
