Job summary

Mabbett & Associates, Inc. seeks a full-time Environmental Sampling Technician to collect and document samples (soil, groundwater, surface water, air, and waste) across field sites.

The role combines fieldwork with laboratory activities to support regulatory compliance and remediation efforts. You'll operate field monitoring equipment, maintain logs, and assist with field reports while adhering to OSHA standards and site safety plans.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in environmental sciences or related field; bachelor’s degree preferred.
• At least 2 years of environmental sampling and monitoring experience.
• Strong organizational and data-logging skills; able to follow procedures precisely.
• Valid driver’s license; ability to travel to local field sites.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and work outdoors in variable weather; some evenings/weekends possible.

Responsibilities

• Collect soil, groundwater, surface water, air, and waste samples per protocols.
• Maintain detailed field notes, logs, and documentation; support QA/QC.
• Assist with field investigations, environmental assessments, and remediation monitoring.
• Prepare field reports and chain-of-custody documentation.
• Operate and calibrate field monitoring equipment; ensure safety plans are followed.
• Participate in required health and safety training; comply with OSHA standards.
• Travel to project sites and perform physically demanding field tasks as needed.

Mabbett & Associates, Inc. (Mabbett®), an award-winning and industry-leading environmental, health and safety (EH&S) consulting and engineering firm, is seeking a full-time Environmental Sampling Technician. Combining fieldwork with laboratory activities in a variety of environmental settings, this position is responsible for collecting, testing, and documenting environmental samples including air, soil, water, and waste materials to evaluate environmental conditions, supporting regulatory compliance, and assisting with environmental remediation activities.

Project tasks will be performed on field sites including undeveloped lands and construction areas and will be performed outdoors throughout the year, including the potential to work in inclement weather.

• Collect soil, groundwater, surface water, air, and waste samples from project sites in accordance with established sampling protocols and quality assurance procedures.
• Conduct monitoring activities and assist with site investigations, environmental assessments, and remediation monitoring while complying with applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
• Record detailed field notes and photographs, maintain sampling logs, document site observations and interpretation of field and analytical data.
• Assist with preparation of field reports, chain-of-custody documentation, and data summaries.
• Adhere to health and safety requirements including OSHA standards and site-specific safety plans.
• Operate field monitoring equipment such as water quality meters, air sampling pumps, multi-parameter probes, and other environmental monitoring instruments.
• Perform calibration and routine maintenance of equipment.
• Participate in required health and safety training.

Requirements

• Associate’s degree in environmental sciences, chemistry, biology, or a related field; Bachelor's Degree in Geosciences, Engineering, Environmental Sciences, or related field preferred.
• 2 years of environmental sampling and monitoring equipment preferred.
• Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills (verbal and written).
• Strong attention to detail and data documentation skills; able to follow technical procedures and safety protocols.
• Possess a valid driver’s license and able to drive car, truck and/or van and able to travel to local field sites.
• Sit, walk, stand, and carry equipment sometimes for long periods of time; potential exposure to adverse weather conditions. Must be able to lift equipment (up to 50 lbs.) and perform physically demanding field tasks.
• 40-hr HAZWOPER certification preferred.
• Some evening and weekend work may be required.
