Nature of Work

This position serves as the Director of The Public Health Sanitation Division within the Office of Environmental Health Services. This position leads a diverse group of highly trained regulatory staff. Essential duties include performing complex administrative and management work to implement and direct the State-Wide statutory, regulatory and educational activities of the OEHS Environmental Sanitation Programs which include: Infectious Medical Waste (Storage, Transport and Disposal); on site waste water (Design, Treatment and Disposal); Recreational water sanitation; housing; general sanitation; institutional sanitation; food safety; bottled water; sanitarian training; and tattoo body piercing studio. Establish goals, objectives, priorities and approve plans of operation for the aforementioned programs. Lead and oversee programmatic administrative functions of the division including setting program goals, monitoring program activities and delivery of services, managing personnel matters, reviewing work of subordinate staff, delegating tasks, conducting staff meetings, reviewing time and activity reports, interviewing and selecting job candidates, and authorizing the purchasing of equipment and supplies. Serve as a member of the Bureau For Public Health Incident Command System (ICS).Serve as a Member of Office Leadership working to resolve issues related to OEHS. Represent the OEHS before various legislative committees and provide oversight and approval to any proposed rule or statute changes. Responsible for collaborative efforts among Environmental Agencies and Local Health Department Environmental Programs.. Review and approve annual environmental program plans for 49 Local Health Departments (LHDS). Review LHD Environmental Health quarterly reports. Coordinate performance audits of LHD Environmental programs. Chair the Environmental Health Liaison Committee Comprised of State and Local Environmental Health Professionals and other Public Health Officials. Serve on various committees and work groups related to Environmental and Public Health initiatives. Attends meetings, seminars and symposiums to maintain knowledge of technical, scientific and professional advancements. Other duties may be assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Training: Master's degree from an accredited college or university.

OR

Substitution: Additional experience as described below may substitute for the required training at a rate of one (1) year of experience for every fifteen (15) semester hours of graduate training and/or every thirty (30) semester hours of the undergraduate training.

AND

Experience: Five (5) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience related to the specialty area, two (2) years of which must have been in a supervisory, administrative or professional capacity.
