Job summary

Woodard & Curran is seeking an Environmental Remediation Technician to join our team in the New England region. The role involves field-based remediation system installation, operation, maintenance, and monitoring, with travel across New England and periodic nationwide assignments.

Responsibilities

  • Performing multi-media environmental remediation system management, operation, monitoring, recordkeeping, troubleshooting, optimization, maintenance, and repair.
  • Collecting samples, field data, and documentation of soil, groundwater, and other environmental media in support of site investigation and remediation projects.
  • Supporting field investigations, implementation of in situ and ex situ remediation technologies and performance monitoring programs.
  • Performing field activities including test pitting and soil sample collection, soil boring and groundwater monitoring well installation oversight, groundwater gauging and sampling, soil vapor and indoor air surveys, hazardous building material surveys, stormwater sampling, and aquifer testing.
  • Performing monitoring and control inspections of remediation and construction projects, including field supervision, management, and documentation of remediation and environmental service providers.
  • Providing environmental response action support during standard and non-standard working hours to address project needs and time-sensitive environmental responses actions.
  • Operating construction equipment and related tooling in support of ongoing remediation and construction projects.
  • Assisting project staff in the preparation of regulatory submittals, work plans, technical memorandums, and/or engineering design reports.
  • Candidate should be a self-starter with strong mechanical and construction-related skills to support a wide range of science, engineering, and construction projects.

An Environmental Remediation Technician will perform a broad range of field-based activities associated with the environmental consulting industry. Position responsibilities will include: remediation system installation, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and/or repair; remediation system monitoring, data collection and tracking; time-sensitive environmental response action; support to the characterization of contaminated sites; remediation construction oversight and monitoring; heavy equipment operation; and contractor management and observation. Fieldwork, data collection, record keeping, and daily communication; and interaction with project staff will play an important role in the candidate’s success. The position requires the ability and willingness to travel and work on environmental remediation and construction sites throughout the New England Region on a routine basis. The role requires flexibility to support occasional time-sensitive environmental response actions during standard and non-standard working hours as well as periodic nationwide travel based on project and client needs.

What you will be doing at Woodard & Curran:

  • Candidate should be a self-starter with a desire to perform onsite field work in a variety of environments and possess strong mechanical and construction-related skills to support a wide range of science, engineering, and construction projects.

What will you need to succeed?
  • High school diploma (Bachelor’s degree in a related field is a plus).
  • 5+ years of professional experience in environmental consulting, construction, and/or related industry.

  • Ability to work both independently and on large multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Willingness and ability to work in the field for extended periods.
  • Ability to respond to short-notice project assignments and changing field schedules is essential.
  • Must be willing and able to travel throughout New England with occasional nationwide travel opportunities, often operating independently.
  • Overnight travel and extended workdays may be required to meet project needs.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. and perform field work in rough terrain.
  • Experience with heavy equipment operation and use of hand tools in both construction and process equipment environments.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, electronic data collection, and construction management software is a plus.
  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER and OSHA 10-Hour Construction (OSHA 30-Hour training is a plus). A successful candidate will also be detail oriented and have excellent verbal communication skills combined with a positive attitude and possess the ability to perform in-field calculations, read and understand construction and system process drawings, specifications, and contract documents. The candidate must be able to mobilize on short notice to support time-sensitive environmental response, remediation, and field activities throughout New England and occasionally nationwide. The candidate must have the willingness to adjust schedules and travel as project demands require, including overnight stays.

$70,000 - $110,000 a year

Group A (RI) = $70,000 - $100,000

Group B (CT, Andover/Canton MA) = $80,000 - $110,000

The anticipated compensation range for this position is based on several factors, including the candidate’s qualifications, experience, education, skills, and primary work location. Final compensation will be determined based on these factors and adjusted, where applicable, by a geographic differential. Geographic differentials are percentage-based adjustments that reflect variations in labor market costs across locations. As a result, the compensation range for this position may vary depending on where the successful candidate is located and performs their work.
