Environmental Protection Specialist I, Hazardous Materials – Denver Metro

Join to apply for the Environmental Protection Specialist I, Hazardous Materials – Denver Metro role at Colorado Department of Transportation.

This position is in CDOT’s Region 1 (Metro Denver) Environmental Unit, focusing on monitoring, controlling, and mitigating hazardous materials in accordance with federal, state, and local laws. Responsibilities include reviewing plans, issuing permits, inspecting sites, working with agencies and contractors, managing data, and serving as a NEPA project manager.

Minimum qualifications include:

  • At least 5 years of experience in environmental sciences or related fields, with at least one year focused on environmental project management or compliance.
  • OR a combination of relevant education and experience totaling at least 5 years.

Additional requirements involve submitting transcripts if qualifying via education, passing pre-employment screening, and possessing a valid driver’s license.

Preferred qualifications include experience with environmental laws, GIS systems, project management, and strong communication skills.
