U.S. Coast Guard Environmental Management Division in Norfolk, Virginia seeks an Environmental Management Specialist (GS-1301-12) to serve as a SME for an extensive set of environmental programs, including remediation/restoration, liabilities, compliance, planning, and sustainability.

The role focuses on guidance and support to units and design teams to ensure regulatory adherence and successful project execution.

Qualifications

  • Basic Requirements include a degree in physical science, engineering, or mathematics with 24 semester hours in physical science or related engineering science.
  • Specialized experience includes technical support for environmental regulatory compliance, remediation/restoration projects, NEPA, and environmental program management.
  • Experience with environmental planning, compliance audits, and coordination with stakeholders is expected.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as SME for environmental programs including remediation/restoration, liabilities, compliance, planning, and sustainability across the CEU AOR.
  • Guide and support Coast Guard environmental program execution at depot and unit levels with authoritative guidance and training.
  • Provide technical support to design teams, asset managers, planners, and property professionals to ensure regulatory compliance and proper NEPA documentation.
  • Perform site management for contaminated sites, including investigations, field sampling, oversight of remediation, and interaction with regulatory agencies.
  • Conduct environmental compliance evaluations, hazardous materials/waste surveys, and audits/assessments.
