Job summary

The State of Oklahoma is seeking an Environmental Programs Specialist in Enid, OK, covering Grant, Garfield, and Alfalfa counties. The role oversees statutory programs, provides citizen assistance, and conducts inspections to protect public health.

Expect to conduct investigations of complaints, perform on-site sewage work, and respond to emergencies and hazardous materials incidents while supporting county-level environmental health initiatives.

Qualifications

• Level I requires a bachelor’s degree with 30 semester hours in a physical, natural or biological science or engineering field.
• Level II adds one year of related professional experience or a master’s degree.
• Applicants must be within 60 days of degree completion.

Responsibilities

• Provide environmental complaint response, investigation and resolution within an assigned area.
• Conduct air, water and soil inspections, collect samples and provide technical assistance.
• Perform on-site sewage program duties including soil tests, inspections and authorizations.
• Provide 24-hour emergency response to disasters and hazardous material events.
• Offer technical service on water and wastewater treatment, solid waste and air pollution control.

Education

Level I- A bachelor’s degree with at least 30 semester hours in a physical, natural, or biological science, chemistry, geology, hydrology, physical geography, epidemiology, environmental science, environmental health or civil, agricultural, environmental, geological or chemical engineering.

Level II - Those identified in Level I plus one year of general professional experience in an environmentally related field; or a master’s degree in a listed field.
