Job summary

ERM is hiring a Project Manager in the San Francisco, CA area focusing on power-utility vegetation management to support our sustainability practice in Northern California. The role oversees tracking client vegetation projects from start to finish, coordinating across teams, and managing permit applications with tight deadlines.

This full-time, limited-term role lasts 12 months with a possibility of extension.

Qualifications

• Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, or related field.
• 1-3 years experience in environmental or utility permitting and/or compliance.
• Familiarity with encroachment packages for Caltrans, State Parks, USFS, Local Water Districts and similar California agencies.
• Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple permit streams to meet deadlines.
• Excellent verbal and written communication with clients and regulatory personnel.
• Proficiency in data handling and analysis—Excel skills required; willingness to learn new software.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage environmental aspects of client vegetation management projects with regulatory compliance.
• Track and monitor project and related application progress; provide updates to internal teams and clients.
• Maintain workflows to meet deadlines.
• Coordinate with project managers and field teams to collect data for permits and internal reviews.
• Build relationships with clients, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders to support timely permit issuance.
• Participate in team meetings and contribute to a collaborative work environment.
• Support program planning through research on regulatory changes and permit processes.
