Job summary

Woocheen is seeking an Environmental Professional – Transducer / Telemetry to perform field-based pressure transducer operations, installation and data downloads at various wells. You will set transducers to manually measured water levels, document field observations, and support telemetry system maintenance.

You will work in rugged outdoor conditions, hike to access sites, monitor packer pressures, operate generators and pumps, and coordinate with project leads.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in engineering, science, or related technical discipline, or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with operating and maintaining cellular, radio, and satellite telemetry systems.

Responsibilities

  • Collect groundwater Manual Water Level Measurements from Alluvial, Intermediate and Regional wells, Piezometers, Extraction and Injection sites and record documentation.
  • Monitor well packer pressure checks, including pressure cylinder exchanges or increases.
  • Install pressure transducers in various wells and locations.
  • Operate generators, trailers, motors, and pumps in the field.
  • Use water level meters and calibration logs.
  • Maintain purchase orders and track calibration certifications on transducers.
  • Coordinate with project leads and take direction as required.
  • Support site access requests, data tabulation, and report preparation.
  • Comply with health and safety policies and practices.
  • Other duties in support of the Water Program; after hours and weekends may be required.

Job description

Job Title: Environmental Professional – Transducer / Telemetry

Job Summary

The Environmental Professional will conduct pressure transducer operations and maintenance activities including the extraction and installation of transducers in wells, downloading data, and setting transducers to a manually measured water levels while completing field forms that are checked in the office, scanned and filed as appropriate. Duties will include monitoring packer pressures and associated pressure cylinder hookups and transportation. Other duties will include operation and maintenance of remote telemetry units.

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Collect groundwater Manual Water Level Measurements from Alluvial, Intermediate and Regional wells, Piezometers, Extraction and Injection well locations while recording detailed documentation. Some locations require hiking up
  • Monitoring well packer pressure checks that includes pressure cylinder exchanges or a packer pressure increase
  • Installation of pressure transducers in Alluvial, Intermediate and Regional wells, Piezometers , Extraction and Injection well locations
  • Operate generators, trailers, motors, and pumps in the field
  • Use and maintain water level meters and calibration logs
  • Maintain purchase orders and track calibration certifications on all Transducers
  • Ability to coordinate with, and willingness to take direction from project leads as required
  • Support the project with requesting site access, data tabulation, and report preparation, as needed
  • Comply with all health & safety policies and practices
  • Other duties in support of the Water Program as assigned
  • Will work after hours and weekends on occasion
Required Skills/Abilities
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Mechanical aptitude desired
  • Must be able to back up a cargo trailer in tight spaces
  • Skill and ability to perform basic tasks and to analyze and develop innovative solutions to problems
  • Ability to recommend approaches for new and improved processes
  • Ability to work with broad objectives, with latitude to determine the best way to accomplish tasks
  • Level of language skills, mathematical skills, communication skills, reasoning ability and computer skills necessary to perform essential functions of the job
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented project environment
  • Familiarity with the LANL site and work environment preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
Education and Experience
  • Associate degree in engineering, science, or related technical discipline, or equivalent; however, a combination of education and relevant experience wherein the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the position’s duties and responsibilities have been adequately demonstrated is acceptable
  • Familiarity with operating and maintaining cellular, radio, and satellite telemetry systems.

  • Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for sedentary work

Will also be carrying up to 30 pounds while hiking. Outside working conditions in the area vary greatly, and can range from 0˚F to over 90˚F at altitudes between 7,000 and 11,000 feet.

  • The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision.
