Job summary

HNTB in Raleigh, NC and Charleston/Columbia, SC is seeking Summer 2027 interns for the Environmental Planning group to gain hands-on experience on infrastructure projects and environmental planning tasks.

You will assist project teams with research, data gathering, and the development of graphics, presentations, and reports under supervision. Enrolled in a related undergraduate or graduate program; proficiency with GIS and MS Office is preferred.

This opportunity entails being responsible for providing planning support from concept development through project completion including researching, gathering, and analyzing data, preparing project materials, and applying environmental laws and regulations, to ensure compliance on behalf of the client.

Our Raleigh, NC and Charleston/Columbia, SC office locations are seeking Summer 2027 interns for the Environmental Planning group.

Relocation and housing are not provided for this position.

What You’ll Do

• Assists project team members with various support tasks.

What You’ll Need

• Enrolled in a related undergraduate or graduate program

What You'll Bring

• GIS map development
• Analysis of demographic and environmental data
• Environmental report preparation in accordance with CEQA and NEPA requirements
• Calculating environmental impacts related to transportation projectsTechnical report development with emphasis on environmental resource(s)
• Technical writing and summarizing technical reports for environmental documentation
• Field work, data gathering and research

What We Prefer

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office: Word, Excel and PowerPoint
• Proficiency with GIS tools
• Knowledge of CEQA, NEPA and other state and federal environmental regulations
• Regulatory permitting experience
