The County of Accomack is seeking qualified applicants for an experienced Planner. The position is responsible for interacting with citizens, professionals, and other regulatory agencies; prepares packets, reports and materials in support of the environmental unit of Community & Economic Development. Technical report writing, including summaries and white papers related to the work of the department is a strong component of this position. The position also performs site inspections in the field when needed.

Minimum qualifications include: Associate’s degree with course work emphasis in architecture, structural design or related field; supplemented by one (1) to three (3) years previous experience and/or training performing inspections, zoning, planning, landscape design, code/standards enforcement and/or plan review work, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Degree requirements may be waived based on writing samples and other related experience. Preferred qualifications: Bachelor’s degree. Technical writing expertise; Certified in Virginia for (1) stormwater management and (2) erosion and sediment control; Demonstrated commitment of continuing professional development & credentialing;

Special Requirements: Possession of a valid driver’s license; Satisfactory completion of a criminal background check, drug screening and Department of Motor Vehicles records check prior to employment and annually thereafter.
