The Environmental Permitting Specialist works as part of a multidisciplinary team to support a diverse portfolio of large-scale environmental and construction permitting projects. In this role, you conduct detailed project due diligence reviews, collaborate with local, state, and federal regulators to identify permitting requirements, and coordinate internally and with clients to secure all necessary permits within established construction timelines.

In this role, you conduct detailed project due diligence reviews, collaborate with local, state, and federal regulators to identify permitting requirements, and coordinate internally and with clients to secure all necessary permits within established construction timelines.


Responsibilities


  • Conduct detailed project due diligence reviews, including wetlands evaluations, Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments, biological assessments, and other relevant environmental studies.

  • Identify required permits by reviewing project scope and working closely with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies.

  • Coordinate with regulators to understand permitting pathways, timelines, and compliance expectations.

  • Work with internal project teams and clients to gather, validate, and organize technical and administrative information needed for permit applications.

  • Prepare, submit, and track permit applications to ensure approvals are obtained in alignment with construction schedules.

  • Support project management activities related to permitting, including maintaining documentation, tracking milestones, and communicating status updates to stakeholders.

  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of environmental scientists, engineers, and other professionals to integrate permitting requirements into overall project plans.

  • Communicate complex permitting and regulatory information clearly and professionally in written reports and presentations.

  • Use Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and ESRI ArcGIS Pro (preferred) to analyze data, prepare documentation, and support permitting deliverables.

  • Participate in occasional field work (such as site inspections and data collection) to support due diligence and permitting activities.


Essential Skills


  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, geology, geography, civil or environmental engineering, wildlife biology, or a closely related field.

  • Minimum of 1–2 years of experience in a similar environmental permitting or regulatory compliance role.

  • Experience with permitting for environmental and construction projects, including interaction with regulatory agencies.

  • Strong understanding of environmental science and regulatory compliance principles.

  • Project management capabilities related to permitting activities and timelines.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present information clearly to internal teams and clients.

  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to navigate complex regulatory and permitting requirements.

  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite.

  • Proficiency with Adobe Acrobat.

  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment.


Skills & Qualifications


  • Experience or familiarity with ESRI ArcGIS Pro is strongly preferred.

  • Working experience in environmental engineering or related technical disciplines is beneficial.

  • Ability to build collaborative relationships with regulators and project stakeholders.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in managing multiple permits and documentation.

  • Comfort with both office-based analytical work and occasional field inspections and data collection.


Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Topeka, KS.


Pay And Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $28.00/hr.


Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
