PROtect, LLC is seeking individuals interested in building a career in the Oil and Gas Industry as an Environmental Monitoring and Mitigation (EMM) Apprentice. EMM Apprentices are trained onsite in Whiting, IN, to minimize fugitive volatile organic compound (VOC) and hazardous air pollutant (HAP) emissions in compliance with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) standards. The Apprentice will work alongside a Level II Technician to apply Leak Detection and Repair processes and practices defined in Method 21 using portable monitoring devices.

EMM Apprentices have the unique opportunity for on-the-job training, with pay increase availability based on earned certifications within the first 12 months of employment. POSITION PURPOSE

  1. EMM Apprentice will report directly to a Leak Detection and Repair (LDAR) Manager, working closely with management to maintain customer requirements and satisfaction while verifying that the company’s goals and standards are met.
  2. This position will be responsible for accurately monitoring components on an assigned route within an industrial facility. The LDAR Technician will also be responsible for calibrating equipment to ensure optimum performance of the analyzer, as well as identifying leaks and processing leak tags.
  3. The EMM Apprentice must use appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to develop effective partnerships to meet mutual goals and objectives, demonstrating a strong ability to analyze data, evaluate situations, and identify problems or opportunities, including likely causes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES

  1. Reporting any and all incidents, injuries, near misses, motor vehicle or any other unsafe condition or acts to supervisor and the Safety Department regardless of how minor they are.
  2. Responsible for monitoring components in an industrial environment to detect emissions from process equipment using a portable analyzer and electronic data collector.
  3. Perform monitoring activities for an assigned route with an allotted amount of time, ensuring all components are accurately monitored and reported.
  4. Responsible for calibrating equipment to ensure optimum performance. Makes minor mechanical adjustments when situations arise.
  5. Identifying leaks and processing leak tags.
  6. Completing daily uploads of monitoring activity to the customer database and completing daily emissions monitoring reports - must have basic computer knowledge.
  7. Communicating daily leaks or potential issues with site personnel.
  8. Communicating/coordinating with plant personnel.
  9. Performing other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION

Must be at least 18 years old, have a high school diploma or general education degree (GED).

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

  1. One to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience; Basic PC Skills with particular emphasis on MS Office Suite (Word, Excel); Prior experience using a PDA device with the ability to download data to a database is preferred. Prior experience in chemical plants or refineries is helpful, but not necessary.

Demonstrates initiative, planning work and carrying out tasks without detailed instructions; makes constructive suggestions; prepares for problems or opportunities in advance and undertakes additional responsibilities.
  2. Ability to analyze data, evaluate situations, and identify problems or opportunities, including likely causes. Strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritize work to meet assigned deadlines.
  3. Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment. Safety-oriented attitude with a true commitment to personal safety as well as the safety of others is a must.
  4. Must be willing/able to don respiratory protection equipment for extended periods of time. Must be reliable/dependable with reliable transportation. Must be willing to work extended hours and weekends when necessary. May be required to travel out of town on a periodic basis.

WORKING CONDITIONS

May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals and outside weather conditions, including working in inclement weather conditions (extreme heat/cold). This job may require lifting of up to 50 pounds occasionally. Ability to climb and work at heights of up to 300ft. Ability to climb scaffolding & walk up to 30 flights of stairs. Work at moderate to high levels of physical exertion for extended periods. Their work may involve risks to hazards such as working around moving mechanical parts; risk of electrical shock, explosives, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment may exceed 85dB and will require the use of hearing protections. Applicants must meet weight restrictions to ensure their safety when utilizing safety harnesses.
