A leading company in healthcare is seeking an Environmental Microbiology Lab Technician for a 6-month contract in Birmingham, AL. This role focuses on environmental monitoring, water quality testing, and compliance with good manufacturing practices (GMP). Candidates will conduct both routine tests and complex analyses while adhering to safety protocols, working in a structured schedule post-training. Opportunity exists for extended contract beyond the initial term.

Job description

Environmental Microbiology Lab Technician



Birmingham, AL

6 months contract (could go longer)

Will train M-F 0800-1700

Shift after training will either be Sun-Wed 0630-1730 or Wed-Sat 0630-1730.

Pay: $25-$29/HR

Responsibilities:

• Environmental Monitoring - Monitoring of Classified Areas using:

1. Active/passive air sampling methods and RODAC/swab surface sampling methods for the detection of bacteria and fungi;


2. CliMet air sampling methods for the detection of Total Particulates; trending of this data to detect anomalies, and characterize the transient and resident microflora

Utilities:

1. Testing of City water for total microbial count and the absence of enteric organisms.


2. Pre-treat water, clean steam and Water for Injection for total microbial count and presence of endotoxins.


3. Nitrogen and process air for total microbial count and total particulates.

• Utilizes classical microbiological methods for the identification of microorganisms.


• Perform validation activities such as biological indictor recovery, bioburden rinse/swab, endotoxin rinse and endotoxin challenge vial testing.


• Data analysis and entry into software systems such as Microbiology Information Management Systems (MIMS).


• GMP Documentation - Document test results and conclusions in a GMP manner.


• Performs responsibilities in compliance with the quality systems.


• Conducts all laboratory activities in a safe manner by use of MSDS to establish chemical hazards, observes the appropriate laboratory procedures and reports all incidents that could threaten the safety of laboratory personnel
