Job summary

Forbes Bros. Group of Companies seeks an Environmental Specialist to support the environmental program on a Nebraska transmission line project. You will provide field guidance, conduct inspections, and help address risks throughout construction, reclamation, and closeout.

Reporting to the Senior Environmental Manager, you will prepare records, coordinate with crews and clients, and ensure compliance with permits, SWPPP, and regulatory requirements. Outdoor work and 28/7 rotation are expected.

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Senior Environmental Manager and working closely with construction and project management teams, the Environmental Specialist supports the day-to-day implementation of the environmental management program for a transmission line construction project in Nebraska. The role provides field guidance, conducts inspections, documents compliance, and helps identify and address environmental risks throughout construction, reclamation, and closeout.

Core Responsibilities

Field Compliance & Construction Support

• Support implementation of the project environmental management program in accordance with permits, approvals, client requirements, and Company standards.
• Conduct routine field inspections to assess compliance with environmental plans and commitments, including the Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP).
• Provide practical environmental guidance to construction supervisors, crews, and subcontractors during daily work and planning.
• Maintain awareness of wildlife restrictions, approved work areas, and other site-specific constraints that affect construction activities.
• Verify and document mitigation measures for erosion and sediment control, spill prevention, wildlife, vegetation, access, and reclamation.

Environmental Planning & Incident Response

• Assist in developing and updating project environmental plans and procedures to meet permit, client, and applicable U.S. regulatory requirements.
• Identify, document, and promptly report environmental deficiencies, non-compliances, and emerging risks; support corrective action tracking and closeout under the direction of the Senior Environmental Manager.
• Lead or support environmental incident investigations as directed, prepare incident documentation, and track required actions and reporting through closeout.
• Participate in environmental orientations, training, tailboard meetings, and construction planning meetings as required.

Documentation & Stakeholder Coordination

• Prepare and maintain timely inspection records, field photographs, environmental reports, and other project documentation.
• Coordinate with the Senior Environmental Manager, project leadership, construction crews, subcontractors, and client environmental representatives to communicate requirements and field observations.
• Support environmental reporting and documentation required during construction, reclamation, and project closeout.
• Perform other duties in support of project and company environmental objectives.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

Education & Experience

• Diploma or bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental studies, biology, ecology, agrology, natural resources management, or a related field.
• Entry-level candidates and recent graduates are encouraged to apply; up to three years of relevant field, construction, or infrastructure experience is an asset.
• Exposure to linear infrastructure or civil construction, and to erosion and sediment control, spill prevention, wildlife protection, or reclamation, is an asset.

Skills & Abilities

• Basic understanding of environmental permits, regulatory requirements, and common field controls in construction.
• Ability to observe conditions in the field, identify potential issues, and communicate findings clearly and promptly.
• Ability to work independently outdoors in active, remote construction environments while following project direction and requirements.
• Strong organization, documentation, and written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to build effective working relationships with crews, project leaders, clients, and other stakeholders.
• Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn project and Company systems.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

• This position requires candidates to:
• Be legally authorized to work in the United States.
• Successfully complete pre-employment and site-specific drug and alcohol testing.
• Maintain a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
• Complete background screening and criminal record checks as required.
• Work at the project site on an anticipated rotation of 28 days on and 7 days off, with 10-hour workdays and Sundays off. Rotation and schedule are subject to project needs and construction sequencing, and flexibility during critical phases is required.

The range shown is the expected base pay range for this role. Final compensation will be determined based on role requirements, experience, qualifications, work location, applicable project/site requirements, internal equity, and any applicable collective agreement or union requirements.

This range does not include overtime, premiums, per diem / LOA, bonuses, benefits, or other forms of compensation unless specifically stated in the job posting.

Base Pay Range

$50—$58 USD
