Job summary

Domtar's Kingsport, Tennessee facility seeks an Environmental Manager to lead compliance, programs, and audits. You will develop and implement environmental systems, manage the on-site wastewater lab, and collaborate with operations to meet regulatory and Domtar standards.

The role requires a strong background in air and water programs, Title V permitting, and a hands-on, team-oriented approach to drive continuous improvement in environmental performance across the plant.

Qualifications

• B.S. degree in science, engineering or environmental fields or equivalent experience.
• 7+ years in progressive environmental management in a process-oriented, industrial setting.
• Experience with environmental permitting including Title V air permits; knowledge of water/air programs.

The location in Kingsport, (Tennessee, United States), is seeking talent to fill the position of Environmental Manager.

This job is full-time permanent.

GENERAL PERFORMANCE

Maintains, develops, and implements Environmental Programs to ensure compliance with all applicable local, State and Federal regulations and corporate environmental policies. Ensure that proper documentation is developed, submitted, and retained for any environmentally required monitoring. Obtain appropriate regulatory approvals, as required. Establishes priorities by partnering with operations, maintenance, and other departments as part of the Plant Leadership Team, in support of strategic Mill initiatives. Serves as a resource to Kingsport Mill Operations and Maintenance Departments to ensure that systems and processes are established that result in meeting or exceeding the environmental regulations and Domtar performance standards. Leads, facilitates and/or participates in the investigation of all environmental incidents and creation and implantation of necessary corrective measures. Conducts tasks within and serves as subject matter expert for the structured EMS system. Manages all aspects of the on-site Wastewater lab. Identifies trends in recurring environmental incidents and facilitates teams to address. Leverages best practices set forth across the Domtar mill footprint. Participates in corporate sponsored environmental audits upon request.

SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENTAL

Maintains certification in EPA Method 9 visual opacity measurement. Ensures that accurate and complete reports to Environmental Regulatory Agencies are submitted in a timely manner such as Discharge Monitoring Reports (DMRs), Toxic Release Inventory Reports, Water Withdrawal Reports, Tier 2 Reports, Boiler MACT Reports, Title V Reports and Hazardous Waste Reports. Makes scheduled rounds to verify environmental standards and expectations are being met. Responds promptly to critical events to prevent and mitigate emission/release impacts. Establishes and maintains effective procedures to meet safety and housekeeping standards at all monitoring and testing locations. Reviews new chemicals used on-site to minimize hazardous waste generation and exposure to hazardous chemicals.

TRAINING

Leads and/or participates in new employee orientation as an instructor on environmental commitment and compliance. Plans and conducts annual and periodic training for Mill employees.

PRODUCTION SUPPORT

Provide on-call environmental services for off-hours and weekends. Ensures timely and accurate data is generated to support compliance status. Works with the Operations and Maintenance Departments in developing standard operating procedures that includes the appropriate material for ensuring environmental monitoring and control of the operation. This may include operating checklists and parameters. Reviews standard operating procedures for abnormal operating conditions including start-up, shutdown, and malfunction conditions; incidents, accidents, and potential emergency situations; past activities, current activities, and planned activities.

QUALITY

Audits in-house and contract lab environmental testing and analyses. Uses monitoring information to identify opportunities to improve environmental performance levels or reduce variability. Reviews and investigates complaints made on behalf of community residents, city officials, etc.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• B.S. Degree in science, engineering or environmental related fields or equivalent experience 7+ years of experience with progressive responsibility and experience in Environmental management within a process-oriented, industrial environment Experience in environmental permitting, including Title V air permits Knowledge of Water and Air programs
• Strong work ethic, "hands-on" approach to work, willingness to learn
