Job summary

Griffith Foods is seeking an Environmental Management Systems Engineer to lead ISO 14001 implementation and sustainment at our Alsip, IL facility. This role drives audits, compliance programs, and sustainability initiatives while collaborating with cross-functional teams to improve environmental performance across operations.

The candidate will develop EMS procedures, manage data on energy, water, waste, and emissions, and support reporting requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Sustainability, Occupational and Environmental Health, or a related technical discipline.
• ISO 14001 experience.
• Willingness to travel up to 25% and work onsite in Alsip, IL.

Responsibilities

• Lead ISO 14001 implementation, certification, surveillance audits, and recertification activities.
• Maintain environmental compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
• Conduct environmental audits and manage corrective and preventive actions.
• Develop and maintain EMS procedures, aspects and impacts registers, objectives, and management review processes.
• Monitor environmental performance metrics and identify improvement opportunities.
• Collect, analyze, validate, and report sustainability data (energy, water, waste, GHG).
• Support corporate sustainability reporting requirements and environmental data verification.
• Provide environmental training and technical support to site leadership and employees.
• Partner with engineering and operations teams to reduce environmental risks and improve resource efficiency.

Qualified Candidates Will Have

• Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Sustainability, Occupational and Environmental Health, or a related technical discipline.
• Experience in environmental, engineering, sustainability, manufacturing, compliance, or related technical disciplines. May include internship, cooperative education, or entry-level professional experience.
• ISO 14001 experience.
• Ability to travel up to 25% to support operations at our Lithonia, GA facility.
• Willingness to work onsite in ALSIP, IL 5 days per week.

What Will Set You Apart

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering or Environmental Science.
• Experience supporting environmental compliance, ISO 14001, sustainability reporting, or manufacturing operations.
• Exposure to environmental audits, environmental permitting, waste management, water management, or environmental data analysis.
• Experience in a food, ingredient, chemical, consumer products, or manufacturing environment.
• ISO 14001 Lead Auditor training preferred.
