Job summary

South Carolina Environmental Law Project is seeking a staff attorney to work in our Columbia or Greenville office, with a hybrid schedule (two remote days). The attorney will join a team of seven attorneys and seven support staff, handling legal advocacy before state and federal agencies and litigating in state and federal courts.

Applicants should have a minimum of three years of litigation experience and a strong academic background with outstanding writing, analytic, and communication skills.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of litigation experience required.
• Strong academic background and outstanding writing, analytical and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement case and issue strategies.
• Perform legal research, analysis and writing.
• Participate in administrative proceedings before regulatory agencies, including drafting comments and speaking at hearings.
• Interface with public officials and advance local policy initiatives.
• Prepare for and conduct trials and contested hearings; briefing and oral arguments on appeal.
• Develop and maintain relationships with other groups and organizations; stay current on SCELP focus areas.
