Job summary

The State Hygienic Laboratory in Ankeny, IA is seeking an Environmental Lab Analyst to perform whole effluent toxicity testing and inorganic chemical analyses in the Limnology Section. The role requires following EPA methods and State guidelines, including maintenance of test organisms and cultures.

Work hours are typically Monday–Friday, with possible weekend work. In-person, on-site position with a strong emphasis on accuracy, documentation, and collaboration within the EH Division.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in chemistry or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to perform tasks with accuracy and detailed record keeping.
• Strong communication skills and ability to interact with diverse teams.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data management tools.

Responsibilities

• Perform whole effluent toxicity testing following EPA methods and State guidelines.
• Carry out analyses of conductivity, total hardness, total alkalinity, and total residual chlorine.
• Maintain cultures for toxicity testing (Pimephales promelas, Ceriodaphnia dubia).
• Follow approved methods and QA procedures for environmental analyses.
