Sully-Miller Contracting Co., the Colas USA subsidiary serving Southern California, seeks an Environmental Intern to support environmental compliance on construction projects.   • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in a related field (Environmental Science, Engineering, Sustainability, Construction Management).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for field and office work.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook).

Responsibilities

  • Assist with implementation and monitoring of Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP) and other environmental control measures
  • Conduct and document routine environmental and stormwater inspections at project sites
  • Support tracking, filing, and maintenance of environmental permits, plans, and compliance documentation
  • Assist in preparation of required reports for regulatory agencies (e.g., SWPPP logs, inspection reports, corrective actions)
  • Observe and support Best Management Practices (BMPs) related to erosion control, stormwater, air quality, and waste management
  • Help coordinate corrective actions for environmental deficiencies identified in the field
  • Participate in site walks, meetings, and training related to environmental compliance and sustainability
  • Assist with data entry, recordkeeping, and organization of environmental files
  • Support special projects related to environmental initiatives, audits, or sustainability goals
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Job Summary

The Environmental Intern supports Sully-Miller Contracting Co.'s environmental compliance efforts by assisting with field inspections, documentation, and implementation of environmental control measures on construction projects. This role provides handson experience working with environmental regulations, best management practices, and sustainability efforts within the heavy civil construction industry.

Main Responsibilities

Education and/or Work Experience
  • Must be currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Sustainability, Construction Management, or a related field
Skills

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to utilize hands and fingers in order to type and carry reports should the need require
  • Ability to stand, walk, and reach with arms and hands throughout the workday should the need arise
  • Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch should the need arise
  • Ability to sit for a long period of time, possibly more than 90% of the workday
  • Ability to see clearly or with assistance via necessary correction
