Your Opportunity

Stantec is currently seeking a mid-level Environmental Inspector II to provide technical support on a variety of projects. This position will be part of Stantec’s Environmental Services team, which offers comprehensive expertise to address permitting and approval requirements for land disturbing projects, including VDOT, power transmission and distribution, and residential/commercial development. Our staff maintains excellent relationships with regulatory agencies throughout the mid-Atlantic, leveraging regulatory knowledge and scientific expertise to help clients secure approvals and deliver projects efficiently.

Your Key Responsibilities
  1. Perform ESC, SWPPP, and VWP inspections for sensitive projects and high-profile clients.
  2. Manage VPDES/VWP projects and support staff to ensure project compliance.
  3. Communicate and collaborate with client representatives, agency personnel, and other Environmental/Regulatory Specialists to ensure consistent project execution.
  4. Provide technical and regulatory support during pre-permitting and post-approval stages of development projects.
  5. Prepare permit applications, gather supporting documentation, and coordinate comment responses with agencies.
  6. Complete project work within established timeframes and budgets.
  7. Assist in creating technical documents for regulatory submissions, including permit applications, SWPPP, and compliance summaries.
  8. Support and ensure the implementation of Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Policies, Procedures, Standards, and Guidelines, coordinating with HSE professionals throughout project phases.
  9. Participate in team and independent work as required.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
  1. Experience with agency enforcement procedures and violation resolution.
  2. Strong technical writing, communication, attention to detail, and organizational skills.
  3. Familiarity with federal and state regulations related to wetlands, natural resources, and cultural resources.
  4. Proficiency in MS Word and Excel.
  5. Ability to manage budgets, time, and schedules independently.
  6. Proven team player with initiative and independence.
  7. Excellent technical writing, organizational, and communication skills.
Education and Experience
  1. Bachelor’s degree in environmental science or related field preferred.
  2. At least 5 years of experience with VPDES/SWPPP permitting, pollution prevention, technical reporting, land disturbing activities, wetlands and streams issues, and environmental permit compliance.
  3. Knowledge of VDOT’s VSMP, ESCCC, and MS4 Programs, including the C-107 process.
  4. Certification as a VA DEQ ESC/SWM Inspector.
Work Environment

The role primarily involves office work with computers, which may require remaining sedentary for extended periods. Field work could expose employees to various weather conditions and physical demands, including lifting and moving items up to 50 lbs.
