Job summary

Ferrara is seeking an Environmental, Health and Safety Supervisor to protect the plant workforce and environment at our Forest Park site. You will monitor health and safety, ensure compliance with policies and government standards, and maintain EHS programs across the site with a focus on safe operations and continuous improvement.

You will lead safety training, investigate incidents, collaborate with Engineering, HR, Quality and Operations, and foster a culture where safety is a core value.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, environmental sciences or related field is required.
  • 1+ year of experience in safety/manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Experience coordinating EHS sustainability activities is a plus.
  • First Aid/CPR/AED or other EHS certifications are a plus.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, NFPA, DOT and EPA regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide EHS leadership and oversight for both Forest Park and Maywood Drive facilities, ensuring compliance and continuous safety improvement.
  • Present EHS programs and train employees in site safety practices.
  • Lead and coordinate safety initiatives and procedures with hands-on leadership.
  • Train and coach employees on OSHA required training and safety topics.
  • Investigate incidents and collaborate with site leadership to prevent recurrence.
  • Review incident data and identify trends to improve safety performance.
  • Ensure compliance with regulations and company policies on the plant floor.
  • Lead safety committees and engage site personnel in safety culture.

Environmental Health & Safety Supervisor

Due to the highly interactive nature of this manufacturing position, in-person attendance and flexibility are essential for supporting production schedules, effective communication and collaboration, real-time problem solving, and participation in cross-functional initiatives. Schedules may vary and are subject to change.

Core Hours: 7am-5pm must be available for occassional weekends

The Environmental, Health and Safety Supervisor is responsible for maintaining the health and safety of the plant workforce and environment by monitoring and evaluating health and safety conditions; assuring compliance with applicable policies, procedures and governmental standards; and maintenance of the EHS Programs for the site. The primary objective is to ensure a safe and incident-free work environment including methodologies, initiatives and strategies that promote safe operations, safety awareness, training and continuous improvement to eliminate or control unsafe behaviors, environments and hazards.

Ways you will make a difference
  • Provide EHS leadership and oversight for both the Forest Park and Maywood Drive (Bellwood) manufacturing facilities, ensuring compliance, employee engagement, and continuous improvement in safety performance.
  • Present EHS programs to train employees in site safety practices by promoting and leading a site culture where safety is ingrained as a core value with all employees
  • Drive the key effective, sustainable implementation of corporate and site EHS initiatives, strategies, programs and procedures, responsibilities via hands on leadership, coaching and teamwork
  • Facilitate, train and coach employees from onboarding to OSHA required annual training and other safety related topics to ensure compliance with government mandated training
  • Collaborate with employees to identify and implement solutions to safety issues identified in inspections and investigations to eliminate incidents and prevent recurrence
  • Review incident and injury reporting and analyze data to identify trends
  • Ensure compliance with regulations and company policies by routinely interacting with employees on the plant floor
  • Analyze EHS programs, conditions and behaviors and recommend changes to continuously improve site EHS performance
  • Lead and ensure thorough investigation of all incidents, in coordination with site leadership
  • Foster/develop a culture where everyone is actively engaged in performing their work in a safe manner and co-workers hold each other accountable to prevent at-risk behaviors
  • Oversee regulatory compliance audits/inspections and associated record keeping in partnership with human resources and oversees workers’ compensation claims by working with the insurance company, injured employees and clinics from the opening of the claim and until the claim closes
  • Provide EHS functional and technical expertise/coaching as needed in all areas and initiatives of the function
  • Collaborate with other key functions on initiatives including Engineering, HR, Quality, Operations, etc. to deliver on goals and plans
  • Understand, demonstrate and is a role model of the company’s operating principles
  • Guide site-based safety teams and effectively lead safety committees to engage site personnel
  • Apply ergonomic principles and recommend improvements with engineering or administrative controls
  • Examine tasks and determine the best method of accomplishing work to prevent injury

  • Working knowledge of machinery repair techniques, welding, electrical construction, pipefitting, carpentry, and facility maintenance practices
  • Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, testing equipment, and fabrication equipment
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, technical drawings, and maintenance documentation
  • Strong attention to detail with a focus on safety and quality
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Experiences that will support your success
  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, environmental sciences or related field, or a combination of education and experience related to the position
  • Demonstrated 1+ year of experience working in a safety and environmentally conscious manufacturing environment preferred
  • Experience in successfully coordinating EHS sustainability activities in a manufacturing setting preferred
  • First Aid, CPR, AED skills or other professional EHS certifications a plus
  • Thorough knowledge of basic industrial hygiene and occupational health hazards and regulations
  • Understanding of fire codes, standards, and regulations
  • Awareness of applicable environmental policies, standards, guidelines, regulations, and local requirements (spill containment, facility waste stream & disposal requirements, etc.)
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Outlook
  • Knowledge of laws and regulations regarding OSHA, NFPA, DOT and EPA

Compensation

The salary range for this role is $81,225 to $113,715 annually.
