Job summary

COPAN Diagnostics, Inc. is seeking an Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist to implement and maintain workplace safety programs, conduct inspections, and support incident investigations across manufacturing, warehouse, laboratory, and office environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree preferred in Environmental Health & Safety or related field.
• 3+ years’ EHS experience, preferably in biomedical manufacturing.
• Bilingual in English/Spanish is required; must read, write and speak both languages.
• Strong presentation, training, facilitation and project management skills.
• Knowledge of California environmental and safety requirements (Cal/OSHA).
• Experience with EHS management systems or electronic safety/compliance platforms.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain EHS programs and policies across facilities.
• Conduct inspections and risk assessments in manufacturing, warehouse, labs and offices.

• Coordinate required safety training and maintain training records.

Job description

Title: Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist

Department: Human Resources

Role Scope: The EHS Specialist will be responsible for implementing and maintaining workplace safety programs, conducting inspections and risk assessments, supporting incident investigations, coordinating required training, and helping ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local health and safety requirements, including California OSHA (Cal/OSHA) regulations.

Specific Activities:

• Support the development, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of the Company's Environmental, Health & Safety programs.
• Maintain and update safety policies, procedures, programs, and related documentation.
• Support the company's Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) and other required written safety programs.
• Conduct regular workplace inspections and safety audits across manufacturing, production, warehouse, laboratory, and office areas to
• Identify potential hazards and recommend practical corrective and preventive actions; monitor corrective actions to ensure identified hazards are addressed in a timely manner.
• Partner with managers and employees to address safety concerns and promote a strong safety culture.
• Assist with regulatory inspections, audits, and responses to findings.
• Support the investigation and documentation of workplace injuries, illnesses, incidents, near misses, and other safety-related events.
• Partner with HR, management, employees, and workers' compensation partners as appropriate regarding workplace injuries and claims.
• Maintain accurate EHS records and documentation in accordance with applicable requirements.
• Support return-to-work and workplace accommodation processes as appropriate, in partnership with HR and management.
• Support applicable environmental compliance activities, including hazardous materials, hazardous waste, chemical storage, and related programs.
• Maintain required permits, logs, records, and documentation as assigned.
• Support emergency preparedness planning, drills, and response procedures.
• Assist with maintaining emergency response supplies and safety equipment.
• Evaluate hazards associated with manufacturing, production, warehouse, equipment, machinery, chemicals, ergonomics, and material handling activities.
• Assist with machine guarding, lockout/tagout, hazard communication, PPE, emergency preparedness, and other applicable safety programs.
• Support ergonomic assessments and recommend appropriate controls or improvements.
• Coordinate and/or conduct required EHS training for employees, supervisors, and managers.
• Maintain training records and monitor completion of required training.
• Develop safety communications, toolbox talks, presentations, and other educational materials.
• Promote employee awareness and participation in safety programs.
• Provide guidance to managers and employees regarding safe work practices and applicable safety requirements.
• Other duties and special projects as assigned.
• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, or a related field preferred.
• Equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience may be considered.
• 3+ years’ of environmental, health & safety experience, preferably in a biomedical manufacturing organization.
• Bilingual in English/Spanish is required. Must be able to speak, write, and read in English and Spanish.
• Strong presentation, training and facilitation, and project management skills are essential.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with employees at all levels of the organization.
• Able to work independently as well as within a team.
• Proficiency in LEAN and Continuous Improvement manufacturing principles.
• Knowledge of California specific environmental and workplace safety requirements.
• Experience with EHS management systems or electronic safety/compliance platforms.
• EHS-related certification such as ASP, CSP, CIH, or equivalent.
• Ability to stand for large amounts of time.
• Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
