Job summary

Arcosa Careers is seeking an Environmental Health and Safety professional for our Alabama plant. The role focuses on designing and overseeing EHS programs to safeguard employees and the surrounding community while ensuring compliance with OSHA, EPA, and related regulations.

You will conduct studies, investigate incidents, and deliver safety training and performance metrics. Collaboration with site teams and independent decision-making are essential for success.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in safety science, safety management, industrial hygiene, environmental science, occupational health, engineering or similar.
  • 3–5 years of experience in an Industrial/Manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, EPA and Workers’ Compensation regulations.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information and work independently.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, implement and oversee EHS programs and procedures to protect employees and communities and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Conduct studies and investigations to confirm compliance with government laws and industry standards.
  • Investigate accidents and promote safety-focused training programs.
  • Provide safety performance measures and metrics.
  • Plan and execute professional safety activities using standard techniques.
  • Plan own work, track progress and adjust efforts to meet goals.

Job description

What you'll do:
  • Designs, develops, implements, and oversees the organization's environmental health and safety programs and procedures to safeguard employees and surrounding communities and to ensure that facility is in compliance with regulations.
  • Conducts studies and investigations to ensure compliance with government safety and health laws, standards and regulations and industrial hygiene as well as environmental safety.
  • Investigates accidents and promotes safety-conscious work performance and training programs.
  • Provides safety performance measures.
  • Responsible for delivery of professional safety activities by applying standard safety techniques and procedures.
  • Responsible for planning own work, assessing own progress and adjusting efforts to meet goals.
  • Determines root cause analyses.

RELOCATION FOR THIS POSITION IS NOT PROVIDED

What you'll need:
  • Bachelor's degree in safety science, safety management, industrial hygiene, environmental science, occupational health, engineering or other industrial discipline workexperience preferred.
  • Equivalent work experience of 3-5 years in an Industrial/Manufacturing Environment
  • Knowledge of:
    • Occupational Safety &Health Administration (OSHA)
    • Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
    • WorkersCompensation regulations
  • Ability to deal with situations involving sensitive and confidential companyinformation
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize and complete multipleprojects in a timely manner
  • Ability to make decisions and operate independently with respect to complex issues and business requirements.
Working Conditions:
  • Work environment includes plant, warehouse, production and non-production areas and plant grounds.
  • Ability to tolerate both high and low temperatures, loud noises typical of a manufacturing plant.
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift to 15 pounds at times.
Safety Activities
  • Be aware of and observe all safety practices. Including but not limited to- Safety glasses, safety boots, hearing protection, etc... as required
  • Know and follow all safety rules and procedures.
  • Participate in safety committees and initiatives as assigned.
