Environmental, Health, Safety & Quality Supervisor

Summary For the EHS and Quality Supervisor, the safety and health of employees takes precedence over any other duties of this position. The EHS and Quality Supervisor maintains compliance with occupational health and safety regulations, environmental regulations and corporate policies and programs by outlining and implementing training programs for employee safety and EHS regulatory compliance. This position is also responsible for ensuring all quality programs are in place and being adhered to including product testing and customer complaint investigation and correction.

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring plant compliance with occupational health and safety regulations, environmental regulations, and corporate safety & health policies and programs by promoting safety awareness and regularly participating in facility safety activities
  • Managing all plant QMS and audit activities: Establish procedure and process to ensure process-based approach and compliance to ISO 9001:2015, Facilitating Risk based Management, performing product and process data review and analysis. Ensuring pre-manufacturing and mix management processes are adhered to based on QC data, taking appropriate actions to ensure product quality remains within specification. Ensuring Raw Material supplier quality performance measurements are in place and adhered to, working with key material suppliers to facilitate data-driven continuous improvement and ensuring Lab equipment and supplies are properly maintained
  • Managing customer feedback; ensuring excellent communication and drive analysis and corrective action in a timely manner applying basic problem solving/root cause analysis tools, managing Certificate of Analysis preparation and distributions
  • Conducting facility audits to verify compliance with EHS regulatory and corporate requirements
  • Coordinating industrial hygiene monitoring and medical surveillance programs
  • Assisting and advising plant on workers’ compensation and accident investigation related issues
  • Reporting out on key performance indicators (KPIs) and adhering to and driving the HBS system to implement actions which will continuously improve them, (OEE, Productivity, Quality, Adherence to Plan) delivering targeted costs and propose plan to optimize costs

Qualifications

  • The EHS and Quality Supervisor requires four (4) – six (6) years of manufacturing experience in the refractories/ceramics environment and a general knowledge of environmental regulations.
  • Requires High School diploma or G.E.D equivalent
  • Prefers B.S. degree in safety/environmental or related field
  • Requires computer operation skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, CAD and Oracle ERP
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal and communications skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 Quality Standards Quality Management Systems
  • Knowledge of LEAN Manufacturing and LEAN Management principles
  • Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and workers’ compensation regulations and practices
  • Physical Activity: Requires more than 2/3 of time talking or hearing; 1/3 to 2/3 of time standing, walking and/or sitting; and less than 1/3 of time using hands and fingers, reaching, climbing/balancing, stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling; and/or tasting/smelling.
  • Lifting: Requires lifting up to 25 pounds less than 1/3 of time.
  • Vision: Requires accurate close and distance vision, color and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
  • Environment: Requires 1/3 to 2/3 of time working in an office setting with limited exposure; less than 1/3 of time working near moving mechanical parts, exposed to fumes, airborne particles or toxic/caustic chemicals, working in high precarious places, exposed to outdoor weather, extreme heat/cold and/or wet/humid conditions.
  • Noise: Requires exposure to moderate noise.
